Powering the GWM P500 is a choice of two formidable powertrains: a 2,4-litre turbodiesel or the innovative 2,0-litre turbo-petrol hybrid. e latter, which we had the privilege of sampling, delivers an astonishing 255kw and 648Nm of combined output, courtesy of the self-charging hybrid system — a first in Zimbabwe’s double-cab segment.

While the P500 may not be the most frugal option, its impressive capabilities, including a 3 500kg braked towing capacity, make it a versatile and capable companion for both on-road adventures and off-road explorations.

Despite its imposing size, the P500 boasts respectable approach and departure angles, along with a generous ground clearance of 224 mm, ensuring you can navigate rugged landscapes with ease. e longer wheelbase may slightly hinder breakover capability compared to some competitors, but the P500’s overall off-road prowess is undeniable.
Pricing and trim levels
To cater to diverse preferences and budgets, GWM offers the P500 in three distinct trim levels:
GWM P500 2.4T 9AT 4X4 Luxury:
US$62 800;
GWM P500 2.4T 9AT 4X4 Super Luxury: US$68 000; and
GWM P500 2.0T HEV 9HAT 4X4 Ultra Luxury: US$80 000.
Regardless of the trim level, all P500 models come with an impressive array of standard features, including a threeyear/100 000km warranty.
