Revellers tread with caution

- Trust Khosa

AFTER a fun-filled and high-spending August month-end, most creatives and revellers are now treading cautiously. What with the back to school mania? Most creatives are slowing down this weekend amid genuine fears of flops.

However, some entertainers and event organisers are going ahead with gigs.

Below are some of the events taking place this weekend:

Mhere reaches divine fulfilment

Mathias Mhere will be launching his 11th album titled “Akati Anesu” at Rainbow Towers (Jacaranda 1, 2 and 3) in Harare, tonight.

In Biblical numerology, 11 symbolises transition and powerful transformation towards total fulfilment.

This could be the case with Mhere who has been in the game for over a decade.

He will be supported by Dorcas Moyo, Fungisai Zvakavapano, Voltz JT, Mbeu, Baba Harare, Mai TT and Jonah Chivasa at this particular launch.

“It is a special album in that we have completely changed the sound and depth.

“I am confident fans will certainly embrace the album because it was wellknit in all departments.

“We urge fans to show up in numbers and worship the Lord with us,” he said.

Doc Vikela keeps them laughing

The celebrated stand-up comedian and skits guru will usher Hararians into the bright weekend with a dose of laughter at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale.

Dubbed “Just What the Doctor Has Ordered”, tonight’s show is a must-attend for comedy lovers who believe comedy is therapeutic.

The 38-year-old, who has been producing stars under the Simuka Comedy movement, will also unleash fresh jokers tonight.

Some of the products of Simuka Comedy comprise Andrew Manyika, Mike and Tinashe Fortune.

Club wheel-spinner, DJ Tanaman is expected to provide variety at the event with his sleek selection of party songs.

“It’s encouraging that Zimbabweans enjoy comedy and laughter nowadays, which motivates us.

“I can only promise fireworks in Avondale tonight as we give you fresh jokes,” bragged Doc Vikela.

Mbeu, Trevor Dongo pact pays

The two ladies’ men will spend the weekend together in Kadoma where they are set to hold a double at Highbury Lounge tomorrow.

Versatile comedian Frets Donzvo will also grace the event.

Popular for his skits and jokes Fret is equally a good guitarist and vocalist expected to add variety to the show.

Agga keeps Nyabinde’s legacy going

Jazz crooner and arts administrator, Agga Nyabinde, is simply living his dream.

Tonight, the crooner will serenade patrons with a show at Red Eagle Bar & Restaurant in Ruwa.

The venue, is popular with big spenders and has been hosting high-profile stars of Agga’s calibre known for giving fans value for their money.

And, being a son to the departed legend Bob Nyabinde, Agga knows what guests will be expecting of him.

The show starts at 8 pm till late.

Sigi, Lady Squanda off to SA

The duo plays at Riders Club tonight. After the show dubbed “Spring Bash”, Jah Signal flies back for his second gig at Whistlers Bar and Grill in Nyanga. He will exchange notes with fellow chanter, Hwinza at this particular show.

The exquisite venue housed at LongCheng Plaza in Belvedere continues to win the hearts of many with its reggae sessions.

On-demand wheel-spinners — Andile Brown and 2Bad — will be in charge at the event.

Fellow entertainers — MC Mocla, DJ Coop and DJ Scott Mallow — complete the line-up of the day.

Selekta Base Car Spinning Show Hits Borrowdale

Borrowdale Race Course in Harare will be on fire when it hosts the Selekta Base Blow-out Festival this Sunday.

A celebration of music, kids’ games and stunning car burnouts, the event is set to feature wheel spinners from the sub-region.

Jericho Moono from Zambia and Stacy Queen of Spin from South Africa are expected at the event.

Not to be outdone are local acts — Tammy Moyo, Rax, Rawse and Probeatz

— set up to complement their foreign counterparts.

Household spinners are expected to grace the event, which comes before the opening of the third school term.

This is the last chance for learners to create memories at the event.
