PREPARATIONS for the Mr. Mufakose body-building and modelling contests, set for September 7 at Rutendo Hall, have gathered momentum.

It will be the third year since the Mr. and Ms. Mufakose events were revived through a Trust.

The Trust is seeking to revive both the sport and the Mufakose community gym, which had been lying idle for several years.

One of the organisers, Lionel Mawoyo said all is now in place to host the event for the third year running.

This year the event will begin with a roadshow on August 31 while the main contest will be on September 7.

“We are happy to announce that preparations to host the third edition of the Mr. and Ms. Mufakose body-building and modelling contest at Rutendo community gym are now at an advanced stage.

“The registration has started and we are happy that we are receiving some good responses,’’ Mawoyo said.

“We are grateful to the City of Harare for availing us Rutendo Hall, which we are going to use.

“The community hall was known as the home of champions after many big names passed through and using it as our host place will inspire a lot of athletes.

“Rutendo Hall has produced some big names like Garikai Mwale, who was the first black man to win the Mr Ma-shonaland title, and then came names like Innocent Choga, George Takundwa and Clyde Mutero, former wrestler Oliver Tengende and Rangarirai Hunda who are all former champions in their own right.

“The trust has gained the confidence of some individuals and business people from the Mufakose community like Safe First, Roonies, and Riyms Harware among others.

“The committee, however, still have some challenges as most athletes still need grooming and how to present themselves on the stage.

“We still have challenges on models who have passion but can’t afford to match the standards of their various cat-egories,” added Mawoyo.
