Themed parties dominate weekend events

WITH the money-spinning summer fast approachin­g, creatives, event planners and other service providers cannot wait to make a killing this season.

Not only are they ready to cash in on fun-loving people but real planners will make a difference this season.

As a precursor to summer, themed parties where dress code, colour blending and restrictio­ns are strongly emphasised will dominate weekend events.

Individual­s holding solo exhibition­s will not be left out as the summer show rolls out. Below are some of the major events of the weekend:

Jah Prayzah anoints Sarungano

Superstar Jah Prayzah returns to his Jongwe Corner fortress in Harare this Sunday with a special family show.

He shares the stage with Afro-fusion exponent, Innocent “Sarungano” Kufakunesu.

Joint proprietor, Chau Nedi, reckons it would be an honour hosting Jah Prayzah who hardly disappoint­s at the venue.

“Hosting a superstar of Jah Prayzah’s calibre is a big endorsemen­t for some of us. We are honoured to have him this Sunday where we are urging families to show up in numbers.

“It is a must-attend family show for Jah Prayzah’s fans in Harare,” he said.

Young Turks spice-up Colour Fest

Harare’s Alexandra Sports Club comes under the spotlight tomorrow when it hosts the inaugural NashTV Colour Fest Family Fun Day.

Freeman, Saintfloew and Holy Ten are the major draw cards at the family fete.

Known for their huge influence, the three top “dogs” of local showbiz are tipped to give festival-goers value for their money.

Michael Magz, Nisha Ts, Gemma Griffiths, Chamvari, King Her and Kyla Blac are also part of the line-up.

Besides music from the youthful stars known as Young Turks, festival-goers will be treated to Zumba workouts, quad biking, colour splashing and tug-of-war sessions.

Dorcas Moyo invite Feli Nandi Kumakomoyo

The trending duo will spend the weekend together in Mutare where they are set to hold a double at Mutare Motoring Club tomorrow.

Dubbed “Ladies in Music”, Feli Nandi and her counterpar­t Dorcas have been given a chance to affirm his dominance.

Songbird Charllette and Vibrant Band will provide cover making it an all-female affair.

However, all the attention would be on Feli Nandi and Dorcas who enjoy a purple patch.

Love or loathe them, the pair is currently on fire.

The event starts at lunchtime till late.

Doek & Slay mania hit H-Town

Killer T and ExQ’s will rekindle their “bromance” this Sunday at Alex Sports Club in Harare when they perform at Doek & Slay show. Zim dancehall stalwart Freeman, who is no stranger to the venue, will spice up the show. An all-female gathering, ladies have been advised to put on denim jeans, white tops, shades and a doek of their choice.

It starts at 3pm till late.

Kireni Zulu’s Chegutu Treble

The ageless solo guitarist will spend the weekend at Messina Gardens and Lodges in Chegutu.

Backed by Marabi Queens, Kireni has adopted the joint as his second home.

“We are performing there from Friday to Sunday coming back to Harare on Monday.

“The concept is working for us and we are grateful to management at the venue for having faith in us,” he said.

Winky D’s Undying Bindura affair

Bindura Country Club is the only venue to be in the rich mining town when it hosts Winky D tomorrow.

Dubbed “Bindura Spring Fest”, the Ninja president will alternate under one roof with Killer T and Master H, courtesy of Chipaz Promotions.

Hype-man Etherton B and his sidekick Garry B, Merciless Zimbabwe and Phatchild are also part of the bill.

Chopper commemorat­ions hit H-Town

The late Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu’s legacy lives on, 19 years after his death.

His son, Suluman, launched the commemorat­ions last week in Victoria Falls and Bulawayo.

After the Matabelela­nd shows, Suluman will hold two shows in Harare this weekend in honour of his father. Tomorrow, Suluman will be in charge at The Yard (formerly Bar Rouge) at LongCheng Plaza.

After this affair, the Orchestra Dendera camp held another show at Afro 161 opposite Belgravia Shopping Centre in Harare.

“We are grateful to our fans who have been there for us over the years. It is encouragin­g that people still respect my father many years after his death,” said Suluman Chimbetu.

Language Legacy Expo begins

Shona Literature lovers have something to cheer on when the inaugural Language Legacy Expo begins tomorrow in Harare.

Hosted by Consultus Publishing Services (CPS), in partnershi­p with LitFest Harare, the 10-month exposition will be running at CPS Head Office in Eastlea, Harare.

The expo runs from midday to 3 pm every Saturday where entry is free.

Dubbed “Integratio­n of literature and visual arts”, the expo will explore how literature and visual arts intersect, the synergies between them and how they help elevate each other.

It also features a book discussion by Giles Kuimba, the author of “Tambaoga Mwanangu” (published by CPS), an O’ level ChiShona literature set book from 2024 – 2027, and renowned scholar and lecturer, Dr Reggemore Marongedze from the University of Zimbabwe.
