Chafa, Pfumbidzai join NRSL Div One

- Petros Kausiyo

SERIAL Premier Soccer League championship winner Devon Chafa has traded the prestige of the top-flight and will now ply his trade in the second-tier Division One, after officially ending his romance with CAPS United yesterday.

Chafa, the most decorated player on the domestic front having won seven Premiership championship titles with Dynamos, FC Platinum and CAPS United beat the Northern Region Soccer League transfer deadline day when registering for Golden Eagles.

The 33-year-old Chafa who won four league titles with Dynamos, two with FC Platinum, and once with CAPS United, had fallen the pecking order of Makepekepe coach Lloyd Chitembwe’s midfield pack and had endured very limited game time lately.

He will now try to assist the Golden Eagles in their aspirations to secure Premiership promotion.

Chafa and ex-CAPS United teammate Ronald Pfumbidzai headlined the NRSL deadline day transfers with the later joining flamboyant and yet ambitious Scottland from South African Premiership outfit SuperSport United.

At Golden Eagles, Chafa is expected to provide the kind of guidance and experience that striker Chris Samakwere had when he was on their books.

Scottland are taking no prisoners in their quest for Premiership promotion on their debut Division One season.

Pfumbidzai becomes the third player at Scottland to have tasted the South African top-flight after defender Lincoln Zvasiya and enigmatic midfielder Denver Mukamba.

The former Warriors left-back has also previously seen South African Premiership duty with Bloemfontein Celtic.

William Nyasulu’s Scottland have also roped in midfielder King Nadolo, who arrives after paying a key role in Yadah’s resurgence in the Premiership.

In easily the busiest mid-season windows in the league in recent times, Scottland and fellow title-chasers who include MWOS, Black Rhinos, and Harare City have also released a host of players to other teams in the league, while receiving some stars from their rivals.

Log leaders Rhinos opted to add their depth from within their league with the trio of Willard Zakeyo, Tapiwa Tasiyana, and Davison Chigora being acquired from

Banket United, Karoi United, and Shamva respectively. Veteran coach Lloyd “Samaita’’ Mutasa decided against tampering much with second-placed and roped in three new arrivals — Godfrey Manase, Ian Nekati, and ex-GreenFuel man Tinotenda Mutyambizi.

MWOS are just a point behind Rhinos who have 41 and could take over pole position should they win against Herentals U20 at Ngoni and the soldiers succumb to another defeat by Scottland tomorrow.
