ZANU PF Harare Women’s League chairperson, Ratidzo Mukarati, has been suspended after her nude pictures circulated on social media.

Mukarati was accused of misconduct and bringing the party name into disrepute, according to her suspension letter.

A Harare provincial co-ordinating committee meeting was held on July 10, 2024, where it was agreed to refer her case to the national disciplinary committee.

“The circulation of nude pictures bearing your image, particularly exposing intimate and private parts of your body on social media was in itself a conduct which detracts from the interests, ethos and integrity of the party, such conduct has the potential to bring or has a consequence to bring the name of the party and/or its leadership into disrepute — Act of misconduct, section 549 subsection (3),” read a prohibition order signed by Harare provincial secretary for legal affairs, Blessing Shamba.

Her deputy Babra Mwale is now the acting chairperson.

Mukarati is also accused of allegedly failing to distribute sewing machines during the run-up to the 2023 election as a campaign gimmick.

“...this facility was intended to popularise the party's policies among the people,” Shamba said.

“Up until this day the machines have not been distributed, thereby disadvantaging the intended beneficiaries thus failing to perform your responsibility of co-ordinating implementation of a party initiated programme of a significant nature.

“You failed to fulfil express or implied terms and conditions of your office.”

Harare provincial vice-chairperson who is also the disciplinary committee chairperson Ephraim Fundukwa, urged senior party members to be disciplined.

“As party leadership, we should exercise servant leadership as espoused by President Mnangagwa. The party will not tolerate anyone found tarnishing the image of the party for their own personal gain,” he said.

Mukarati yesterday refused to comment over her suspension.

“I am not allowed to speak to the Press. If l do so, they will continue to lay more charges against me,“she said.
