WARRIORS NEWBOYS CELEBRATE THEIR DRAFTING INTO THE SQUAD

- Snodia Mikiri

TWO of the three new faces to the Warriors squad named by interim coach, Jairos Tapera, are excited by the prospect of earning their first caps.

Godfrey Chitsumba of Manica Diamonds, Tymon Machope from Simba Bhora, and Douglas Mapfumo of Polokwane City are the newboys in the team.

In an interview with H-Metro yesterday, Chitsumba said he was happy to get a chance to represent Zimbabwe.

“This is a dream come true. I am very happy to be representing my country. This is my first time.

“I am grateful for this.

“This is the highlight of my career.

“I am going to give this chance my everything, I will deliver, I don’t want this to be the last time I will be in the Warrior’s squad, so, I will pull up my socks and work extra hard,” said Chitsumba.

The former Dynamos and Triangle goalkeeper said he grew up looking up to Chicken Inn and Warriors goalkeeper Donovan Bernard.

He said rubbing shoulders, and training with Donovan, will be a blessing.

“Growing up, Donovan and Mkuruva (Tatenda) were my role models. I aspired to be like them.

“I am very happy to be watching my mentor from a close angle.

“Trainning together with Donovan is a dream come true. Patiance is important. At last, i am here.”

Machope said his hard work was paying off. “I am very happy, this is the best news ever. I am the happiest man alive. Hardwork pays, and being part of the national team is proof of that. “I have been working very hard.

“I will not let my country down, given the chance to showcase my talent. I will deliver, no doubt,” said the Simba bhora forward.

Machope has five goals and seven assists from 14 games so far this season.

“As a striker, you have to score goals or assist to be counted among the best forwards. I have been doing that and I am happy my efforts are not going unnoticed.

“My goal contribution is 95 percent. I have been working very hard to be here.”
