FINALLY, PARAMOUNT GARMENTS FIRE PUT OUT
FINALLY, the Fire Brigade has managed to put out the fire that has been ravaging Paramount Garments for the past week.
The Fire Brigade has now contained the fire and its firefighters managed to enter the building to put out pockets of smaller fires.
Paramount Garments group finance director, Jeremy Youmans, said this was a great relief to everyone who has worked tirelessly to put out the fire.
He said they were still uncertain as to what caused the fire.
“We are uncertain as to the cause at the moment as fire-fighters are still on the ground and yet to go through to assess and give a detailed report,” he said.
“We are yet to assess the full extent of the damage as the building is not yet safe for a full assessment to be done. All I can confirm is that part of our raw materials and finished goods warehouses were damaged.”
Youmans said their biggest challenge was water as they had to source water from bulk water suppliers with some donating for free.
“Donations and contributions were rallied by the Emergency Help Group which is a standalone group of individuals that rally for assistance in emergency and crisis situations in Harare,” he said.
“We are very grateful to them and all the organisations, and individuals, who contributed towards assisting in sourcing water and also directly contributing in cash and kind towards the firemen’s welfare from food to refreshments, PPE and medical supplies.
“We also had individuals coming on the ground to assist with their expertise.
“We will be publishing a full list of all the donations that came through and we will facilitate an official handover to the City of Harare Fire Brigade of donations that were not utilised during this crisis.”
