GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE POWER CRISIS SERIOUSLY.
Dear Editor, Power is extremely crucial to running industries for the betterment of the economy.
This means our energy sector is one such part which should be taken seriously by our government.
It should not be given lip service like we are currently seeing in Zambia.
Our current load shedding timetables are hopelessly hurting Zambians.
Yet before UPND formed government, its leader and now President Hakainde Hichilema was on top of mountains assuring us the time for load shedding will be history soon he places his feet in State House. It’s been almost three years now in power, but nothing is pointing to that promise.
If anything, the situation is becoming murkier and disappointingly gloomy.
So to hear our Energy Minister Peter Kapala talking about what he calls ‘ interventions’ like importing diesel powered generators, it’s the late nine stitches to deal with.
First, does Zambia has that kind of money to support the importation of diesel for this ambitious project? It may sound okay on paper and lips but I don’t think it is workable.
Truth is that Zambia is in a serious energy crisis which might get worse as move towards the end of the year.
It is any wonder that all the “Bally will fix it” noise has advantageously been left for the dead to hear.
Now that our Kariba North Bank power station is reported to be at high risk as reported by Kapala due to a reduction in water levels, the future is hard to predict.
For now Zambians should simply brace for further extended load shedding periods. The truth must be known and told.
