MEDIA URGED TO EXPOSE ILL-ACTS SHRINKING DEMOCRACY
THE opposition Socialist Party (SP) has challenged the media to be courageous enough to expose corruption, tribalism, nepotism and the increasing dictatorial tendencies in the UPND government which has led to the shrinking democracy.
Copperbelt Provincial Chairman Martin Chikwanda said the media should not feel intimidated by the increasing dictatorial tendencies of the UPND government , but must be bold to expose ill-acts.
Mr Chikwanda said the media must play a critical role of exposing the social, economic and political ills being perpetrated by the UPND government.
"The Hakainde Hichilema led UPND government has disastrously failed to deliver on its campaign promises as well as marshalling sufficient political support to guarantee its re-election in 2026, hence it has formed the UPND-Zambia Police Alliance to boost its chances of returning power.
:"It is this alliance which has resulted into harassing of people, which has resulted into the shrinking democratic space. We have also seen corruption, nepotism and tribalism. These are the things you, the media should expose. Don't be intimidated,'' Mr Chikwanda said.
Mr Chikwanda has since cautioned Zambians to brace themselves for the worst elections ever in 2026 because of the imingalato formula the UPND has introduced.
He said the ridiculous, cheap, and archaic methods applied by the UPND to win the eight local government by-elections and the deputy mayoral elections in Kitwe and Ndola in March served as a template for the 2026 general elections.
