CORRUPTION BLOSSOMING UNDER UPND - CHANGALA
ZAMBIA is facing the worst form of corruption ever under the UPND government as the country is being looted, with the institution that is meant to fight against the scourge having joined in the participation of the plundering, Brebner Changala has said.
Mr Changala, a civil and political activist says there is grand corruption in the UPND under the watch of President Hakainde Hichilema because the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) under the office of the President has been compromised.
Mr Changala said in an interview with Millennium TV that the fight against corruption under the UPND and President
Hichilema had collapsed as it had because a tool for political vengeance, retribution and vindictiveness.
He said Zambians were under a regime that had gone on rampage selling the country’s assets such as the Mopani Copper Mines (MCM) using the non-disclosure agreements so that people should be blinded while the looting and plundering was going on.
“There is no fight against corruption in Zambia under the UPND government. In fact, the so-called fight against corruption is being used as a tool to demonise and victimise a selected group from some regions in the country.
As we have all come to realise, the fight against corruption is being used to purge citizens from regions the UPND hates. We know and have seen that people from the Zambezi region have dominated in all government institutions while those from the other regions are systematically being purged,” Mr Chanagala said.
Mr.Changala explained that the ACC and the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) should never have been moved to the President’s office at State House because they had been compromised and were incapable of investigating corruption in the Executive.
“The grand corruption we are talking about is happening in the Executive. That is where there is massive corruption. But the problem is that we have been made to believe that only past corruption should be fought and that the current corruption shall only be exposed after the UPND and President Hichilema leave office in 2026,” he said
He said the ACC had become such a corrupt institution to the extent that the people in the board and management had been buying gadgets and phones costing more than K40 ,000 for personal use.
