HSOY waiving pet adoption fees today
The Humane Society of Yuma is waiving adoption fees for all pets this weekend, which means that every kitten, cat, puppy and dog can be adopted for free today. The special is part of the “Clear the Shelters” adoption event.
With the shelter at a critical capacity, HSOY is “urgently seeking loving homes in the Yuma community for the many animals currently in their care,” according to a HSOY press release.
“We are over capacity and need our community’s help to ensure every pet gets the second chance they deserve,” said Annette Lagunas, executive director of HSOY. “This free adoption weekend is a wonderful opportunity for families to find their perfect companion while also making space in our shelter for other animals in need.”
The HSOY has been facing an overwhelming influx of animals, and without immediate adoptions, the shelter is at risk of running out of space and resources. All animals available for adoption are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, ensuring they are ready to go to their new homes.
HSOY encourages the public to act fast since many of these animals have been waiting for their forever homes for weeks or months. In addition to providing a loving home for a shelter pet, adopters are also saving lives by opening up space for incoming animals, HSOY noted.
The main shelter for the Humane Society of Yuma is located at 4050 S Avenue 4½ E in Yuma, and is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Pets are also available for adoption at Petsmart, which is located at 1460 Yuma Palms Parkway, Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
