GRAVETTE — Plans are being made for the 21st annual Gravette Lions Golf Classic, to be held on Saturday, April 20, at the Highlands Golf Course in Bella Vista. The event, sponsored by the Gravette High School Booster Club, is also the fourth annual John Edwards Memorial Tournament, having been given that name in 2021 when the tournament was “dedicated to the memory of a man who gave his all to Gravette Public Schools.”

Edwards, who served on the Gravette School Board from 2003 to 2018, was an enthusiastic supporter of all school activities and was one of the people responsible for starting the tournament. All proceeds go to support GHS activities, including athletics, the arts, cheerleading, drama, and vocal and instrumental music.

All golfers are welcome to enter the tournament, but entries are limited to the first 36 teams. Entry fees, which include coffee and donuts, flight awards, and lunch, are $55 per person, $70 per person for POA members, and $75 per person for POA guests. Lion Pride packages, which include two mulligans per player, entry in the putting and longest drive contests, are available for $25 per team. The deadline to enter is Friday, April 12. Registration forms are available at the Gravette schools administration office, and the form and checks made payable to Gravette Golf Classic should be mailed to Gravette Golf Classic, c/o Norman Mitchell, P.O. Box 24, Hiwasse, AR 72739.

Play will be a 4-person scramble with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Golfers will play rain or shine. Prizes will be awarded for the closest to the pin, the longest drive, and first and second place in each flight.

Hole sponsors are still being sought. Sponsorships, available for $125 and up, must be received by April 14. Please email norman. mitchell@gravetteschools.net with sign printing information.

Corporate sponsorships are available. A platinum-level sponsorship at $1,000 includes an 8-player entry and the opportunity to promote one’s business on the range/putting green and registration table/scoring area. Gold-level sponsorships at $500 include a four-player entry and tee box promotion.

Charitable tax deductions are available for those choosing to send donations. Separate charitable tax donation checks should be made payable to Gravette School Foundation and mailed to the above Golf Classic address.
