Jamestown uses three big innings to down VC Kings

It was a pitchers duel for the first four innings as the Valley City Kings and Jamestown Eagles were tied at 1 after four innings. Jamestown did not have a hit yet and Valley City had four. But the Eagles would score 14 runs over the next three innings to take a 17-5 decision from Valley City at Charlie Brown Field.

The Kings scored right away in the first. With one out, Tye Cordie singled then stole second. A single by Hudson Kriewald moved him to third and Chase Coghlan scored him with a single to make it 1-0 Kings.

Jamestown got the run back in the third without the benefit of a hit. Colton Gerlach walked, stole second then went to third on a error where he scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

Jamestown scored all of its runs in the fifth with two out. A sacrifice fly by Brady Sorenson broke the 1-1 tie and gave the Eagles the 2-1 lead. Jace Kolpin doubled in two runs to make it 4-1, then scored on an error to make it 5-1.

The Eagles tallied six runs in the sixth innings to break the game open. A RBI single by Haden Smith made it 6-1, Sorenson added another RBI single to make it 7-1, Theo Strukel drove in a run with a single to make it 8-1. A walk to Deegan Fix loaded the bases with no one out. Sorenson scored on a passed ball then Kolpin capped off the inning with his second two run double of the game to make it 11-1.

In the seventh, Jamestown plated four more runs. With the bases loaded and one out, Strukel walked to score a run and make it 12-1. Fix was hit by a pitch to bring in another run and make it 13-1. With two outs and the bases still loaded, Cullen Hardy walked in a run, making it 14-1. Parker Moser brought a run in on a fielder’s choice to make it 15-1.

Jamestown added single runs in the eighth and ninth. Aiden Meissner scored on a passed ball in the eighth and Hardy scored on a ground out in the ninth to make it 17-1.

Valley City went down swinging, scoring four runs in the bottom of the ninth. Chase Albrecht was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Tye Cordie singled and Layne Jorissen walked to load the bases with no one out. Hudson Kriewald singled, scoring Albrecht and reloading the bases. Coghlan grounded out, scoring Cordie to make it 17-3. Lukas Kietzman grounded out, scoring Jorissen to make it 17-4. Kriewald scored on Jaxon Baumgartne­r’s double to make the final 17-5.

Tye Cordie, Hudson Kriewald and Jaxon Baumgartne­r were all 2 for 5. Cordie scored twice and Kriewald once. Chase Albrecht was 1 for 3 with a run scored and Chase Coghlan was 1 for 5 with two RBI.
