Benicia girls basketball fall to Vacaville

Bethel boys pick up win over Swett, Coach Sarna League hosting fundraiser

The Benicia High girls basketball team lost to Vacaville on Friday 52-31 at a tournament in Vacaville.

At the half Benicia trailed 22-18, but the Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run in the third quarter to get some breathing room in the win.

Chloe Alejo led the Panthers in the loss with seven points.

Kelsey Collins led Vacaville

with 23 points, while Maggie Lopez added 13 for the Bulldogs.

With the loss Benicia fell to 2-11, while Vacaville improved to 3-9 with the nonleague victory.

Boys basketball

BETHEL 68, SWETT 32 >> The Bethel High boys basketball team defeated John Swett 68-32 on Thursday night.

The Jaguars were led by Marcel Longmire, who had 18 points, while Christian Vaughn added 14 point of his own.

Bethel improved to 7-5 on the season with the win. The Jaguars are 2-1 in the Tri-County Athletic League.

COACH SARNA LEAGUE HOSTING FUNDRAISER >>

The Coach Sarna League is hosting its 2nd Annual Crab Feed Fundraiser event to support its mission of providing financial assistance to children who want to play flag football regardless of their financial ability. The event will take place on February 4th, 2024, at the Veterans Hall in Vallejo.

The Coach Sarna Crab Feed and Auction is an annual winter fundraisin­g event that features all-youcan-eat crab, spaghetti, drinks, a 50/50 raffle, and auctions. The event is open to the public, and tickets are available for purchase by calling Ken Sarna (707) 334-2961.

The proceeds from the event will go toward providing scholarshi­ps to every child who needs one and ensuring that no family is turned away due to finances.

The Coach Sarna League has donated over $90,000 in scholarshi­ps for people to play flag football. The league has over 600 youth athletes from Solano, Napa, and Contra Costa Counties and offers competitiv­e LEGO STEM competitio­ns and scholarshi­ps to every child who needs one.
