Area athletes fill up all-state team

Led by Daily Camera player of the year Marcus Von of Broomfield and Longmont Timescall winner Brian Heredia of Skyline, there were 40 players from the Boulder, Broomfield and Longmont areas named to the Colorado High School Activities all-state team.

Von, the CHSAA 5A player of the year, had 19 goals and 41 points, leading the Eagles to a 5A state title. Heredia led the 4A classifica­tion with 27 goals and 68 points.

Broomfield had four 5A first teamers, including midfielder­s Elijah Smith and Adam Thresher, who combined for five goals and 24 points. Leading its stout backline, defenders Cole Martin was a first teamer and Evan Rea was named to the second team.

Centaurus, which won the 5A/4A NCAC and reached the 4A semifinals, had a first teamer in D Demitri Wiegand (seven goals and 20 points) and two secondteam­ers in defenders Vincent Renton and Kasey Minor. Their goalie, Garrett Pugh, was an honorable mention after totaling 75 saves.

Legacy, the Front Range League co-champion, meanwhile, was led by Lucas Montera on the first team. He finished with 13 goals and 39 points. Fellow-midfielder Gavin Gartner was named to the second team.

Elsewhere in 5A, Boulder and Fairview, which both reached the second round of the postseason, each had three players make it.

Connor Sims was a standout in the midfield and forward positions for the Panthers, making the first team, while teammates Victor Torres and Tyler Dove were honorable mentions.

All three of the Knights players were HMS as Oliver Harmon had 31 points at forward and Tate Ruzzin

and Nolan Kelly made it at midfield.

Monarch had an honorable mention in F George Behringer.

Peak to Peak, last year’s runner-up that got back to the 3A semifinals, had a pair of first teamers in MF Jorden Gyaltsen and D Eddie Castilleja. Gyaltsen had 19 goals and 42 points, and more impressive­ly, he had six goals and an assist in the first round of the postseason. F Ethan Wang was second team and MF/F Matthew Wolsko was an honorable mention.

Niwot and Silver Creek had three apiece in 4A.

Defenders Usiel Franco Cruz and Bo Gardner were named second team and Josh Rodriguez (26 points) an honorable mention, helping lead the Cougars to their third quarterfin­als appearance in four years.

F Kael Pacaro made the second team after he had 16 goals and 42 points, helping lead the Raptors to the fifth seed in the postseason and their seventh straight doubledigi­t win season (excluding SC’S 8-2 record during the pandemic season). MF Kaden Riedel (22 points) and D Ryder Nicolaus were HMS.

Skyline, meanwhile, which had the highestsco­ring offense in 4A, had four honorable mentions behind Heredia. Carlos Lara had 35 points, Angel Pereyra 34 while Carson Manes and Alex Duarte were standouts in the midfield and backline.

Mead had two, led by Logan Knight (26 goals and 59 points) on the second team and goalie Jordan Lohr (87 saves) was an honorable mention. So did Longmont in HMS James Tillery (38 points) and Max Mckinney (20).

Dawson had a pair make it in 2A, led by first-teamer Charlie Martin (39 points) and second-teamer Nathan Duckett (26). Prospect Ridge Academy had a 3A first teamer in goalie Cole Mclemore, who had 122 saves.
