There’s some good news for west Wichita residents.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 17, the county will operate a new tag office out of the Driver’s License Office located at 610 S. Tyler Road. The county announced the new tag office Friday.

“I hope this added location will be more convenient for citizens in west Sedgwick County,” Sedgwick County Treasurer Brandi Baily said in a press release.

There are two full-time tag offices in the county — the Douglas location (2525 W. Douglas Ave.) and the Kellogg location (5620 E.

Kellogg Drive).

Derby has a three-day-a-week tag and tax office (620 N. Rock Road, Suite 300), and Park City has one that’s open two days a month (1941 E. 61st St. North).

The new location will be open only Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to

4:15 p.m. The location is by appointment only, which can be made online. Both the Derby and Park City offices are also appointment-only.

The Tyler location will only accept checks and credit cards.

WHEN DO I NEED TO PLAN MY VISIT TO THE TAG OFFICE?

If you recently purchased

a vehicle that needs to be registered, you’ll need to visit the tag office.

To renew your vehicle’s registration, you can do so either in person at a tag office, online or by mail. You’ll need your renewal notice, proof of insurance and a form of payment.

When your registration expires depends on the starting letter of your last name. Here’s the schedule, from the county’s website:

January/February: Heavy trucks, trailers & vintage vehicles February: A

March: B

April: C & D May:E,F&G

June: H & I

July: J, K & L

August: M, N & O September: P, Q & R October: S

November: T, V & W December: U, X, Y & Z Additionally, Kansas is rolling out a new standard license plate design. So anyone with a standard embossed plate will need to receive a new license plate, as well as a new license plate number, when renewing their registration.

Just like other services, those who need a new plate can do so online. The new license plate will then be mailed to you.
