Gallucci one of three R’ville players set to receive Trenton Softball HoF scholarship
The highly-successful Robbinsville High School softball team has long been known for its strong defense and Sorella Gallucci has certainly done her part continue to continue that tradition.
An outstanding third baseman known for her spectacular diving stops, a strong and accurate arm, and ability to charge in to cover bunts, Gallucci is among the six senior high school athletes who will receive scholarships at the Trenton Softball Hall of Fame’s banquet on April 28.
Gallucci’s skills have landed her a scholarship to play for the University of Delaware. When she takes to the field for the Blue Hens, she will follow in the footsteps of former Robbinsville great Leanna Gearhart, who set all kinds of hitting records at the University of Delaware.
Gallucci has also been a productive hitter for Robbinsville. A four-year starter, she immediately made an impact as a freshman by belting four home runs.
Her skills have led to her receiving All-Colonial Valley Conference and All-Area recognition by The Trentonian.
Gallucci is a fine student as well with 3.8 GPA and plans on majoring in college in biological science. Her extra-curricular activities include being a member of the agriculture and environmental clubs.
With a program as strong as Robbinsville’s it’s not easy to be a fouryear starter, but the fact Gallucci has done it helps explain why she’s going to play Division I softball.
Six high school athletes who play either softball or baseball will each receive $4,000 scholarships. In addition the Frank Garzio scholarship for $3,000 and the Tom Devito scholarship for $1,500 will also be awarded. The scholarship winners who play softball are Rylee Michalak of Notre Dame as well as Robbinsville’s Gallucci, Katie Ziliani and Haley Krebs. Baseball players receiving scholarships are Kellen Moore and Justin Prekop.
The Men’s Player inductees are Doug LeJambre, Willie Allen and Mark Olszak. The Player/Manager is Joe Marseglia and Tim Dolan was the player selected by the Veterans Committee. Richardson Realty is the inductee in the Sponsorship Division. Women’s player inductees are Wanda Caines and Connie Huston.
The banquet on April 28 will be held from 4 to 8 p.m at the Mercer Oaks Golf Course. Tickets cost $70 and can be purchased by calling Artie Kearns at 609-771-6143 or by getting in contact with John Adubato at either 609-2734496 or john_adubato@yahoo.com.
