Freda Willaims retrospective to open at ARTWORKS
ARTWORKS in Trenton is set to showcase the retrospective of Freda Williams’ work, spanning both the main and community galleries. The public can visit the gallery from January 23, 2024, to March 16, 2024, Tuesday-Saturday, between 11 am and 5 pm. The opening reception is scheduled for February 2nd, 2024, from 6-8 pm.
Mabel “Freda” Williams, a resident of the Trenton area and Ewing Township for over seventy years, hails from North Carolina. Expressing her love for art since the age of ten, Williams attended Rider College (now Rider University) and is a self-taught professional artist. Throughout her career, her art served as a means of personal and creative expression, providing balance to her intense professional life. After a 20year stint in the steel industry as manager of employment and 25 years as manager of affirmative action with the state Department of Education, she embraced retirement as a time for creative exploration.
Williams has exhibited her work at various venues, including the Mercer County Senior Juried Art Show, Lawrenceville and Ewing Public Libraries, the Ewing Township Arts Commission, and more. She has been an active member of the Ewing Township Arts Commission and continues to advocate for art participation across all ages and backgrounds.
The retrospective at ARTWORKS will feature a diverse range of styles and themes, including florals, political pieces, African American history, Trenton historical sites, southern themes, landscapes, and cityscapes. The exhibition will also include the “To The Left Series,” reflecting Williams’s personal journey. Inspired by African American history, Williams aims to remind people of its significance. Her paintings, characterized by a love for color, present vivid images capturing nostalgic memories, cultural experiences, and political impressions.
