Woman charged with attempted murder
TROY, N.Y. » A Collar City woman was charged with attempted murder in connection with an early-morning shots-fired incident on Sunday by Old 6th Avenue.
According to Troy City Police, Krista M. Leverette, 34, was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon when police responded to the area of Old 6th Avenue after a caller to the Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety Telecommunicators reported hearing shots fired.
Patrol officers arrived at the scene, and located evidence of shots having been fired but any involved individuals fled before police arrived. Evidence Technicians and Detectives also responded to conduct the investigation. It was determined a dispute occurred in the street between a male and a female known to each other during which the female — later identified as Leverette — reportedly fired several shots from a handgun.
The unidentified male involved in the dispute fled and is not believed to have been struck by the gunfire. With the assistance of community members police was able to quickly identify a residence in the area where Leverette fled following the incident.
Patrol officers established a perimeter around Leverette’s residence while detectives, with support and resources from the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center, pursued a court-ordered search warrant. The search warrant was conducted at Leverette’s residence on Old 6th Avenue by the Troy Police Emergency Response Team with the assistance of the Colonie Police Department Special Services Team.
Leverette was taken into custody and a handgun was recovered at the residence. She is currently in Troy Police custody, where she will be processed on the charges and appear for arraignment in Troy City Court on Monday morning.
