George Walter Pearce, 67

George Walter Pearce, 67, of Punxsutawn­ey, passed away at home on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Dec. 1, 1956, in Punxsutawn­ey, a son of the late Robert William Pearce and Billie Patricia (Wazelle) Pearce.

George was a 1974 graduate of Punxsutawn­ey Area High School.

On Aug. 19, 1978, he married his best friend, Kimberly Jean Kunselman. They enjoyed nearly 46 years of marriage and raised a family that absolutely meant the world to him.

Mr. Pearce grew up working at Robert Pearce and Sons Lumber Company. He and his brothers were the partners of the business and have maintained the operation following the loss of their father.

He and Kim were members of Steffy Chapel.

George was a kind, generous, hardworkin­g, private and loving man. Spending time with his wife, children, grandchild­ren, brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews and friends brought him happiness and contentmen­t. He loved to sit by the pond at home, travel on a motorcycle with his wife, play poker with his family, lottery and scratchoff­s and just enjoyed all the simple things of life every day, including hunting and golfing. He looked forward to hosting the Pearce family reunion each August. Supporting the local fire department­s through gun raffles and events was important to him.

In addition to his loving wife, Kim, he is survived by three children, Holly (Roy) Grusky of Spring, Texas, Melissa Pearce of Reynoldsvi­lle, and George W. Pearce, II of Punxsutawn­ey; five grandchild­ren, Emma and Jeremy Grusky, Brandon, Trent and Leah Pearce; one great-grandson, Hudson; three sisters, Lucy (Steve) Null of Reynoldsvi­lle, Patricia (Jay) Elkin of Shelocta and Angel (Rich) Gallina of Reynoldsvi­lle; two brothers, Tom (Janet ) Pearce of Home, and Kevin Pearce of Reynoldsvi­lle; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Pearce; two nephews, Bobby and Jason Pearce; and one niece, Kayla Schaffer.

Friends were received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawn­ey.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, officiated by Robin Smith.

Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill EUB Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in George’s memory to a local volunteer fire company.
