Rain delays one Punxsy All-Star game; another All-Star team remains undefeated

PUNXSUTAWN­EY — The rain delayed one Punxsutawn­ey Little League All-Star game on Sunday, while another was able to finish up on the road on Sunday afternoon.

At home, the Punxsy 8-10 Baseball All-Stars hosted Kane, where by the second inning, the home All-Stars had a 6-0 advantage before the rain delayed the rest the game until today, which will start a 5:30 p.m., with the Punxsy Major Baseball All-Star game against Brookville to follow with a 7 p.m. start time.

In the first inning, Punxsy’s Abel Emhoff had a big at-bat, while Liam McIntosh stole home in the second inning to give the home team a 6-0 advantage before the delay.

Prior to Sunday’s game, the 8-10 Baseball All-Stars beat St. Marys 1-0 to advance to this game. Punxsy’s Vinny Miller scored the winning run in the sixth inning to claim the win for his team, while having the team’s only hit of the day.

On the mound, Blake Hughes struck out five and walked three, while Paul Zimmerman struck out five as well.

In Sunday’s other game, the Punxsy Major Softball All-Stars made the long trip up north to play Potter/McKean, who they beat 11-0 for the team’s fourth shut-out in a row.

Punxsy scored eight runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and two in the fifth, while outhitting the home team 4-0. Punxsy committed one error to the hosting team’s three.

For Punxsy, Willow Wright was 2-for-3 with four RBIS and a triple, while Elly Hinds went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Idella Hawk had two RBIs, and Emma Martino had an RBI. Also, Geneva Stamler went 1-for-2.

On the mound, Bailey Hallman walked two and struck out 10, while Hawk struck out one in one inning of relief.
