2024 Special Olympics Marshall and Starke Counties Spring Games held
Special Olympics Marshall & Starke Counties program just competed in the area 1 annual Spring Games. 21 athletes in Track and 11 athletes in swim went to Valparaiso Saturday May 11. They competed against athletes from other counties in the area. This included St. Joseph, Porter, Lake, and Elkhart County.
athletes competed in Running events from 50 meter to 1500 meters. In walking events up to 800 meters. Field events like the softball throw, mini-javelin, shot put, standing long jump and running long jump. They also had relay events in both track and swimming. Swimmers competed in Medley events from individual to relay.
They also competed in backstroke, freestyle races.
“We are extremely proud of each of our athletes as they have shown us bravery and courage in all they have done over the past year,” stated Marshall-starke County Coordinators Jackie and Joe in a press release.
On June 6, 38 athletes and several Coaches and Volunteers will be heading down to Terre Haute for Summer Games. athletes will be competing in Track & Field, Swimming, Bowling, and Powerlifting over the course of 3 days at ISU and Rose Holman.
The public is invited to come wish them good luck and wave to them as they leave town on Thursday, June 6 at 6 p.m. ET. The organization would love to invite public safety divisions to join the escort as well as they leave town. The public is invited to line the sidewalks waving and cheering them on as they leave Culver. Signs are welcome. The route is expected to leave Culver High School at 6 p.m. EST, continue to academy Rd, then to Lake Shore Drive where they will pass the beach area, and then to Main Street.
