Stallions capture UFL title in shutout

Birmingham Stallions fans cheer before the start of the UFL championship game.

The United Football League championship game ended in a 25-0 shutout victory for Birmingham on Sunday, as the Stallions claimed their third straight title in a cruise-control victory over the San Antonio Brahmas.

Palm Beach County and the greater area of South Florida had representation in the UFL’s finale, with former Lake Worth High School football star Jonathan Garvin — who played three seasons with the Green Bay Packers — making his mark.

Nevelle Clarke, who is from Miami and played at University of Central Florida, and Kevin Austin Jr., who is from Fort Lauderdale and played at Notre Dame, also contributed to the Stallions’ successful season.

Meanwhile, Wyatt Ray, who is from Boca Raton and played for Boston College, played for the Brahmas this season.

Jonathan Garvin wins first UFL title

When the Stallions signed Garvin, they knew what they were getting.

A seventh-round draft pick by the Packers, Garvin has known a lot of success on the football field, starting at the high-school level and extending beyond what was a three-year tenure with Green Bay.

Garvin was The Palm Beach Post’s AllArea Defensive Player of the Year in 2016, following a senior year in which he tallied 88 tackles and 25 sacks.

That success carried over into his time with the Miami Hurricanes.

Garvin accounted for 106 tackles, 29 for loss, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and one block in 38 games with Miami, before appearing in 38 games with the Packers from 2020-2022.

In Sunday’s UFL title contest, Gavin had four tackles and a sack to help the Stallions to a shutout victory over the Brahmas.

UFL finals box score: Stallions dominate on both sides of the ball

It was all Stallions at The Dome at America’s Center on Sunday.

Two of the league’s most renowned defenses locked horns early and often, and the game’s offenses struggled to find their respective footing in the first half.

It wasn’t until just before halftime that Birmingham put points on the board. But when Adrian Martinez found Gary Jennings for an 8-yard touchdown pass with 40 seconds left, it was the start of a scoring frenzy.

Birmingham would go on to add two more touchdown drives in the third quarter.

Martinez added an 11-yard touchdown run and then Kyahva Tezino’s forced fumble led to another quarterback sneak on 4thand-goal by Martinez to put the Stallions up 22-0.

A 49-yard field goal by Chris Blewitt was the final score for a third-straight league title for the Stallions.
