James Argus Hinton

-

OKLAHOMA CITY - James Argus Hinton was born in a small farmhouse near Lindsay, Oklahoma on September 6, 1931. His parents were William Lee Hinton and Caldonia Isabelle Carden Hinton.

Argus went to high school in Wayne, Oklahoma. After high school, he moved to Oklahoma City to work for his uncle Bill Parker as a helper doing refrigeration work. At the same time, he attended Draughon’s Business School. Soon after, Argus started Hinton Refrigeration Company, which remains in the family today.

In 1956, Argus went on a blind date and met the love of his life, Norma Hurst. They were married later that year. They went on to build a beautiful family of three children.

Known as Hugo to his extended family and Mr. H by his employees, Argus was loved by all that knew him. As the owner of Hinton Refrigeration Company, Argus was respected by both his employees and customers. Competitors even talked to him for advice.

Argus was a long-time member of Putnam City United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. After retirement, Argus enjoyed going back to his family farmland in Maysville, Oklahoma to become a pecan grower. He learned to graft pecan trees and started his own orchard. Argus truly enjoyed his time at the farm, especially during the pecan harvest.

After a long battle with cancer where he fought longer than doctors ever believed, Argus passed away peacefully at home August 30, 2024.

The family would like to thank the staff at both Integris Health Cancer Institute and Integris Hospice.

Argus is survived by his wife Norma, two sons, Richard Hinton and his wife Julie, Larry Hinton and his wife Tammy and one daughter Sharon Tucker and her husband Jeff. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother William Lee (Bill) Hinton, Jr. and his sister Nola C. Uhlfelder.
