Master Gardeners plan free classes for March
Geauga County Master Gardeners have announced two upcoming free classes.
“Composting and Vermiculture” will take place 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 20.
Composting is an easy, economic, and essential practice to convert organic waste from kitchen and yard into nutrient-rich soil, and those interested can join Geauga County Master Gardener Volunteers and the Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District to learn composting basics and benefits, and a step beyond with vermicomposting, according to a news release.
Experts will also discuss how to avoid common composting problems, and participants will have the chance to win a free kitchen compost pail.
Then, “Gardening 101 Series Part 2: Seed Selection & Planting Plan” will be held 10 a.m. to noon March 23.
“You’re working on getting your garden site ready, it’s time to make your seed, plant selection, and planting plan,” the release stated. “Selecting your own seeds is exciting. Growing the food your family enjoys is fulfilling.”
Master Gardener Volunteer Kelly Morgan will cover the basics of selecting and starting one’s own seeds, what works best directly planted in a garden, and when to start planting.
Morgan is an avid native flower and vegetable gardener, and a beekeeper who loves sharing her interests and experiences with gardening, the release stated.
Each class will be held at the Geauga County Extension Office in the Patterson Center, 14269 Claridon-Troy Road in Burton.
Registration is required for each program. For more information and registration, call 440-8344656. Complete 2024 class descriptions can be found at geauga.osu.edu.
