Amherst native is Ohio Ms. Basketball finalist
A young local prospect is in a class of her own. Amherst native and Laurel’s Saniyah Hall made her return in the running for Ohio Ms. Basketball.
On March 6, the OHSAA announced the two-time Northeast Lakes District Player of the Year was named one of the finalists for Ohio girls basketball’s most prestigious award.
The voting for Ms. Basketball
is open, and she will compete with Dee Alexander (Purcell-Marian), Elise Bender (Whitehouse Anthony Wayne), Emily Bratton (Bloom-Carroll), Bryn Martin (Springboro), Ashley Mullet (Berlin Hiland), Corri Vermilya (Loudonville) and Berry Wallace (Pickerington Central).
Alexander is a junior who won Ms. Basketball last year and Vermilya is a two-time finalist as well.
Hall is ranked third nationally among sophomores, according to ESPN.
Hall averaged 25.7 points per game, 11.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.8 steals and 1.5 blocks. She also had two 40-point games, one of which was a school-record 46-point performance against Lutheran East.
In a 71-70 loss to Anthony Wayne, she scored 43 points against the Generals.
The Gators’ strength of schedule is among the best in Ohio, as they are 17-10.
Laurel won a district championship in for the second year in a row and defeated Gilmour Academy, 51-38 in a Division II Barberton Regional semifinal.
Laurel has the opportunity to advance to the final four for the second time in school history, as it will take on Streetsboro in the Division II Barberton Regional final.
Hall is the sister Nia Hall, who was Lorain County’s Ms. Volleyball award winner in 2022. She was a Division I firstteam All-Ohioan that finished her freshman season at Cleveland State.
