Alfredo N. Cuaresma Jr., affectionately known as Alfie, Freddy, or Freddy Boy, passed away April 26, 2024, peacefully in his beautiful home surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of aloha, dedication, and cherished memories. Born in the spring of 1950 and raised in Waipahu, HI on a sugar cane plantation, Alfie lived a life full of adventure, service, and devotion.

From a young age, Alfie displayed a spirit of bravery, commitment and a little wildness, which led him from surfing Pipeline, to serving his country as a Green Beret in the special forces. After the military, he found a new home in Maui, HI, where he embarked on a successful early career as the Resident Assistant Manager at Lahaina Shores. Alfie made lifelong friends with his coworkers and island visitors alike, many of whom, some 50 years later, still come back to Maui to visit him and his family. Lahaina Shores was also the place where Alfie would meet his soulmate, Elaine; a visitor to the island who, after meeting him, never left.

Alfie later dedicated himself to serving his community as a firefighter, a role in which he demonstrated immense courage, selflessness, and mentorship. Additionally, he worked at United Airlines, where he left a lasting impression with his work ethic and camaraderie, while providing a means for his family to travel and see the world. Alfie retired from both careers, maintaining strong familial bonds with coworkers from each until the day of his passing.

Alfie’s life was enriched by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Cuaresma; his son, Kaleo Cuaresma, and daughter-in-law, Lindsey Goncalves; his daughter, Coalette Lay, and son-in-law, Mike Lay. He was a proud grandfather to his cherished grandchildren: Kahewai, Aubrey, Kaimalie, Gabrielle, and Koa, who were the light of his life.

Beyond his professional accomplishments and dedication to his family, Alfie was a man of many passions. He was an avid surfer and waterman, finding peace and joy in the ocean’s embrace. His love for cars and motorcycles was well-known, and he could often be found working on or admiring a beautiful vehicle. A diehard San Francisco 49ers fan, Alfie’s enthusiasm for his team was contagious, flying between San Francisco and Maui for almost every home game for over 20 years. He was also a steadfast world travel buddy to his beloved Elaine, sharing countless adventures and creating treasured memories together.

Alfie was more than a father, husband, and grandfather; he was also a great friend and family member to so many. His kindness, loyalty, and uncanny ability to help others have a great time, left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His delicately wild spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.

As we say goodbye to Alfredo N Cuaresma Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived and honor the incredible legacy he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Aloha no e a hui hou, Alfie (Honey, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle, Freddy Boy, Braddah). Your journey continues in our hearts and your legacy lives through our actions.
