Cisco gets three picks, Brown, Kirk brawl
Hurricane Debby chased the Jacksonville Jaguars indoors Monday at the Miller Electric Center for the first time during the preseason.
The Jaguars’ offense then encountered Hurricane Andre.
Safety Andre Cisco hauled in three interceptions during the practice, the first time in the preseason that a defensive player had more than one turnover in the same practice. Cisco spread the joy, victimizing each quarterback, in three situations.
Cisco picked off a C.J. Beathard pass near the left sideline during an 11-on-11 period in which the offense started in the shadow of its own goal post; intercepted Mac Jones during a two-minute drill period; and finally made his day complete by picking off Trevor Lawrence during a more conventional 11on-11 period.
The last interception broke a streak of 105 passes in a row without an interception by Lawrence in team periods. He has thrown six interceptions in camp but the last one had been by Travon Walker on July 27.
The defense went more than 200 passes by the three quarterbacks without a pick until Jarrian Jones picked off Beathard on Sunday.
The other highlight of the indoor session was a melee sparked when cornerback Montaric Brown leveled wide receiver Gabe Davis, skirting the rules of engagement allowed in camp by coach Doug Pederson, even with the team in full pads. Brown then compounded the situation by taunting Davis while he was on the ground.
Christian Kirk, who was not in on the play, rushed onto the field without his helmet and plowed into Brown, causing a shuffling and scuffling session among at least 30 players until coaches restored order.
The defense had been getting chippy before the near-brawl. De’Antre Prince knocked Elijah Cooks to the ground after Cooks caught a short TD pass from Mac Jones, and Erick Hallett II took Tim Jones down, deflecting a ball that Daniel Thomas almost picked off. There was also other incidents of taunting and celebration after almost every pass that was broken up or picked.
It might be an indication the team needs Tuesday’s day off after five days in a row in full pads.
The Jaguars are back on the field Wednesday and Thursday, then have Friday off before opening the preseason schedule at home against Kansas City on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Two hours, full pads.
The Jaguars practiced inside due to the tropical weather.

Offense: Trevor Lawrence on-target before his pick
Lawrence was 4 of 8 during 11-on-11 periods and 12 of 13 in 7-on-7. During a situational drill, in which the offense was put at various spots on the field and given one play to score against a prevent

defense, Lawrence threw a TD pass to Kirk. Lawrence is 36 of 42 (85.7 percent) on 7-on-7 periods in his last five practices.
Beathard did well in a two-minute drill, taking the offense from his own 45 to the 10-yard line with 12 seconds left. But in a play painfully reminiscent of Lawrence against Baltimore last year, he completed a pass to Travis Etienne, inbounds and with no time-outs left, and Amani Oruwariye kept Etienne from scoring as the clock ran out.
Jones didn’t do so well in his turn in a two-minute period. The results were a sack, a dropped pass by tight end Brenton Strange that would have only gained 3 yards and kept the clock running had he caught hit, and Jones’ interception.
Cooks made a nice one-handed catch of a Lawrence pass in 7-on-7 and running back Gary Brightwell, who joined the team on Saturday, had to adjust when Beathard threw over the wrong shoulder and made a good catch on a wheel route, with linebacker Caleb Johnson covering.

Defense: Secondary gets handsy
After nearly a week’s worth of practices without making many big plays, the second responded on Monday. In addition to Cisco’s three picks and the near-interception by Thomas, cornerback Tre Flowers and Prince each broke up two passes and cornerback Ronald Darby, Thomas and Hallett had PBUs.
Defensive tackle Roy RobertsonHarris had his best day of camp. He likely would have had two sacks under live conditions and pressured Jones on his interception by Cisco.
Special teams:
Little hits a bank shot
Rookie kicker Cam Little made one field-goal attempt at the end of a live period. He hit the left upright from 47 yards out but the ball caromed through the goal posts. He is now 27 of 32 (84.4 percent) in kicks during 11-on-11 periods.
