Phillies rally, top Mets in 10th

Bryson Stott lofted a 10th-inning sacrifice fly Monday night for the visiting Philadelph­ia Phillies, who overcame a two-run, ninth inning deficit to beat the New York Mets 5-4.

The Phillies have won 10 of 12 after taking the opener of a series that will see the teams play twice in New York before immediatel­y playing twice in Philadelph­ia. The Mets have lost six of nine.

Stott led off the ninth with a homer against Mets closer Edwin Diaz, who later forced home the tying run with two outs when he hit Alec Bohm with a pitch.

In the 10th, New York reliever Sean Reid-Foley (1-1) uncorked a wild pitch that sent automatic runner Bryce Harper to third. Nick Castellano­s walked before Harper tagged up and scored on Stott’s fly to right field.

Diamondbac­ks 6, Reds 5

Kevin Newman dropped a two-run single into right field with one out in the ninth inning to give the Arizona Diamondbac­ks a walk-off victory over the Cincinnati Reds in Phoenix.

Newman went 4-for-5 as Arizona won for the sixth time in its past eight games. Gabriel Moreno and Joc Pederson homered for the Diamondbac­ks, who swept three games from the Reds in Cincinnati last week.

The Reds have lost 11 of their past 12 games.

Mike Ford had two hits and two RBIs and Spencer Steer also drove in two for the Reds.

Dodgers 6, Giants 4, 10 innings

Will Smith bombed a two-run double with one out in the top of the 10th inning, sending the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers to a victory over the rival San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three-game series.

Neither team had scored since Enrique Hernandez’s pinch-hit solo homer in the seventh when Giants reliever Taylor Rogers (1-2) struck out Shohei Ohtani with automatic runner Mookie Betts on second base for the first out of the 10th. But Rogers then walked Freddie Freeman, and both Betts and Freeman raced home on Smith’s go-ahead hit to center field.

J.P. Feyereisen walked Mike Yastrzemsk­i with one out in the last of the 10th to put the potential tying run aboard. The right-hander got Thairo Estrada to ground into a game-ending double play, securing his first save of the season and fifth of his career.

Cardinals 10, Angels 5

The St. Louis Cardinals scored eight runs in the seventh inning to rally from a four-run deficit and beat the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, Calif.

The Cardinals had scored as many as eight runs in a game only twice all season before Monday, and not at all in more than a month, before they got seven hits, two walks and a hit batter on their way to their biggest inning of the season.

The Angels got 51⁄3 scoreless innings from starter Jose Soriano and a key double-play grounder with the bases-loaded by reliever Adam Cimber off the bat of Paul Goldschmid­t, taking a 4-0 lead into the seventh.

Rockies 5, Padres 4

Elehuris Montero drove in three runs and Dakota Hudson snapped a personal six-game losing streak to start the season as the visiting Colorado Rockies held off the San Diego Padres.

Hudson (1-6) worked 52⁄3 innings, allowing three hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts. His sinker fetched 10 groundball outs as he helped Colorado earn its fifth consecutiv­e victory.

Randy Vasquez (0-2) took the loss, victimized by a four-run fourth inning. Vasquez was charged with five runs on eight hits and a walk in 32⁄3 innings, fanning none. He became the first Padre starter in five games to permit more than two hits.

Mariners 6, Royals 2

George Kirby pitched seven scoreless innings as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Kansas City Royals in the opener of a three-game series.

Luke Raley went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs while Ty France hit a two-run shot and a single for the American League West-leading Mariners, who have won three of the first four on their six-game homestand.

Royals starter Brady Singer (3-2) allowed more than two runs for just the second time in nine starts this season. The right-hander went five innings and gave up four runs on nine hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Guardians 7, Rangers 0

Jose Ramirez went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and five Cleveland pitchers combined for a four-hitter as the Guardians handed the slumping Texas Rangers their fourth straight loss in the opener of a three-game series in Arlington, Texas.

Ramirez had a pair of two-run singles, walked twice and stole two bases, and Andres Gimenez and Brayan Rocchio each had two hits and two runs scored for Cleveland. Hunter Gaddis (2-1) picked up the win with an inning of hitless relief.

Jose Leclerc (3-3) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on two hits and a walk in just one-third of an inning. Texas starter Michael Lorenzen no-hit the Guardians for 51⁄3 innings before yielding a ground single to left to Tyler Freeman. Lorenzen allowed just one hit and four walks over seven innings while striking out four.

Pirates 8, Brewers 6

Bryan Reynolds went 5-for-5 with a homer and two doubles and Mitch Keller tossed six scoreless innings as the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates held on for a victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

In the opener of a three-game series, Jack Suwinski and Yasmani Grandal each added a two-run homer for the Pirates, whose bullpen allowed six runs after Keller’s departure.

Milwaukee pulled within 7-6 in the eighth on Jake Bauers’ first career grand slam. The Brewers loaded the bases with none out on two singles and an error. Bauers then ripped a 3-2 pitch from Josh Fleming to right for his fourth homer.

Astros 9, A’s 2

Alex Bregman homered twice, rookie right-hander Spencer Arrighetti notched his first career win and the Houston Astros claimed the opener of a four-game series with the visiting Oakland Athletics.

Bregman recorded his sixth career multi-homer game as part of a four-RBI night. He helped Houston win for the fourth time in five games while sending Oakland to a seventh loss in nine games.

Bregman, who added a double and a walk, slugged his second and third home runs while batting sixth in the order for just the fourth time this season.

Braves 2, Cubs 0

Zack Short drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth for his first RBI of the season and four pitchers combined on a shutout as the Atlanta Braves beat the visiting Chicago Cubs in the opener of a three-game series.

The Braves scored both of their runs with two outs in the sixth off reliever Hayden Wesneski (2-2). Travis d’Arnaud and Short delivered back-to-back doubles before Ronald Acuna Jr. brought Short home with a single.

Chicago’s Shota Imanaga went five scoreless innings, throwing 98 pitches, and he allowed seven hits and three walks to go along with eight strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 0.96 and picked off two baserunner­s to short-circuit Atlanta’s opportunit­ies.

Rays 5, Red Sox 3

Amed Rosario doubled, tripled and factored into four of the Tampa Bay Rays’ runs in a win over the host Boston Red Sox.

Rosario drove in three runs, Yandy Diaz went 3-for-5 and Jose Caballero also had a pair of hits, with each scoring a run for the Rays.

Wilyer Abreu went 2-for-3 while Tyler O’Neill hit a three-run home run for the Red Sox, who had won their previous two games following a three-game skid.

Blue Jays 3, Orioles 2, 10 innings

Daulton Varsho homered to tie the game in the eighth inning and knocked in the go-ahead run with a groundout in the 10th to lift the visiting Toronto Blue Jays to a win over the Baltimore Orioles to begin a three-game series.

Bo Bichette had three hits for the Blue Jays, who were facing the Orioles for the first time this season.

Adley Rutschman homered twice for Baltimore, which mustered just one other hit.

Tigers 6, Marlins 5

Spencer Torkelson clubbed a goahead, two-run homer in the eighth and the host Detroit Tigers topped the Miami Marlins.

Torkelson’s long ball, his second of the season, made a winner of Alex Faedo (3-1). Jason Foley recorded his 10th save.

Otto Lopez hit a two-run homer for the Marlins in the opener of the threegame series.

Nationals-White Sox postponed

The opener of a three-game series between the Washington Nationals and host Chicago White Sox was rained out. The White Sox said the game will be made up Tuesday as part of a straight doublehead­er beginning at 4:40 p.m. EDT. Game 2 will begin 30-45 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.

The White Sox will send right-hander Chris Flexen (2-3, 4.29 ERA) to the mound for Game 1 opposite Nationals right-hander Trevor Williams (4-0, 1.96). In Game 2, Chicago will start former Nationals right-hander Erick Fedde (3-0, 3.00) against Washington lefty Mitchell Parker (2-1, 2.67).
