Did Anna DeGuzman’s ‘AGT’ jokes go too far?
Bergenfield native cut after comments to Mel B
Magician and Bergenfield native Anna DeGuzman was back performing tricks on Monday night’s “America’s Got Talent: Fantasy League.” However, it may have been some of her comments that cost her a spot in the finals and got her eliminated.
For her performance, DeGuzman called upon two judges to be her assistants: Howie Mandel and Mel B.
During her playing card and money illusion, Mel B seemed to get a little confused and couldn’t remember parts of the trick, as DeGuzman questioned her on how many cards there were and what color the back of the cards were.
DeGuzman joked at Mel B’s expense during the act, but some of the jokes may have gone too far.
At one point, when Mel B got confused over what bills were in her hand, DeGuzman said, “It’s OK. You’re pretty.”
As Mel B was reading the serial numbers on a dollar bill, DeGuzman quipped, “Wow, she can read!”
There were audible gasps from the audience at that comment.
As the judges critiqued DeGuzman’s performance, judge Heidi Klum remarked about the comments, “It was a lot of talking, and I also didn’t love so much what you said to Mel.”
DeGuzman apologized and said, “I thought we were both joking.”
Mel B did not seem fazed by the comments, saying, “That went over my head. I was looking at what you were doing, and it was really good.”
Klum turned to Mel B as they cut away and said, “I thought that was mean what she said to you.”
Last fall, DeGuzman finished second to Adrian Stoica with his dog, Hurricane, on “America’s Got Talent.”
Moving on to the “AGT: Fantasy League” finals on Monday were Pack Drumline, Aidan Bryant (Mel B’s Golden Buzzer) and Kodi Lee (Mandel’s Golden Buzzer).
