KCSO: Man shot in Oildale; no suspects arrested

A man was shot multiple times around 8:40 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of David Lane in Oildale, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was taken to a hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds, according to the KCSO.

It is unclear whether the man died from his injuries or survived the shooting. The Sheriff’s Office did not immediatel­y return a request for clarificat­ion.

No one has been arrested in connection to the incident. Anyone with informatio­n is asked to call the KCSO at 661-861-3110 or Secret Witness at 661-322-4040.

A man went missing around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1300 block of Monterey

Street, according to the Bakersfiel­d Police Department.

Jaycob Joseph Valdez, 22, is described by police as Hispanic, 5 feet, 11 inches tall, 340 pounds with black hair and black eyes. He was last seen wearing a turquoise tank top, black shorts, and black and white sandals. Anyone with informatio­n on Valdez’s whereabout­s is asked to call the BPD at 661-327-7111.

A pedestrian hit by a car on Highway 99 near Merced Avenue on May 31 died at the scene, according to the Kern County coroner’s office.

The coroner identified the pedestrian as Bryan Adan Cruz, 29, of Boron.

The Kern County coroner’s office identified the man who was shot and killed in the 800 block of V Street on April 25.

Dontrell Demetrius Smith, 29, of Bakersfiel­d died from multiple gunshot wounds and his death was considered a homicide, according to the coroner.

According to the Bakersfiel­d Police Department, Marlon Burch, 31, and Rodney Gipson, 35, were arrested on suspicion of murder and gang-related charges.

Both were charged by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office with first-degree murder, dischargin­g a firearm on a person, possession of a firearm by a felon and participat­ing in a street gang. Gipson and Burch have their next court hearing July 30.

The Kern County coroner’s office identified the man who was found dead around noon Thursday near the Kern River in Kernville.

William Russell Carmack, 62, of Huntington Beach was found dead in the river near KRS RV Resort at Camp James, according to the coroner. His cause and manner of death have not been determined.

Three men and a teenager are suspected of robbing an 82-year-old man after he withdrew money from Desert Valleys Federal Credit Union in Ridgecrest on May 18, according to the Ridgecrest Police Department Facebook page.

In a video on the RPD Facebook page, a suspect in a hooded sweatshirt can be seen demanding money from the victim. When the victim refused, the suspect punched him in the head and the man dropped the money. The suspect began picking up the money as the victim attempted to crawl around on his knees to retrieve his money.

The main suspect in the case was identified as Andrew Nicklas Herrera, 18, of Ridgecrest. He was arrested Thursday in San Bernardino County on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and attempting to evade the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in a car chase, according to Ridgecrest police.

Herrera will be transferre­d to Kern County after the matter in San Bernardino County is resolved, according to the RPD. Jaren Hoff, 19, Austin Olson, 18, and an unidentifi­ed 17-year-old suspect were arrested, according to the RPD.

Hoff was in Kern County Sheriff’s Office custody as of Friday afternoon but Olson has been released, according to booking records.
