“Immaculate” (2024)

Nothing is quite what it seems on the surface of the convent at the center of “Immaculate,” which becomes available to stream Thursday, Aug. 15, on Hulu. After surviving drowning in a frozen lake at an early age, Cecillia (Sydney Sweeney, “Euphoria”) turns to the life of devout faith. Leading up to her final vows to become a nun, Cecillia is invited to an illustrious Catholic convent in the Italian countryside by Father Sal Tedeschi (Álvaro Morte, “The Wheel of Time”). Soon after arriving, Cecillia starts to discover weird occurrences that hint at dark and horrifying secrets. Things get even weirder when she becomes pregnant out of nowhere and the other nuns start treating her like the second coming of the Virgin Mary. Directed by Michael Mohan (“The Yoyeurs,” 2021) and written by Andrew Lobel (“Mysteries Unknown”), “Immaculate” also stars Simona Tabasco (“The White Lotus”), Benedetta Porcaroli (“Perfect Strangers,” 2016), Giorgio Colangeli (“There’s Still Tomorrow,” 2023), Dora Romano (“Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,” 2006), Giampiero Judica (“All the Money in the World,” 2017), Betty Pedrazzi (“The Hand of God,” 2021), Giuseppe Lo Piccolo (“Rainbow: A Private Affair,” 2017), Cristina Chinaglia (“The Champion,” 2019), Niccolò Senni (“Mission Impossible III,” 2006), Viviane Florentine Nicolai (“The Dinner,” 2014), Marisa Regina (“America Latina,” 2021), Tiziano Ferracci (“One of the Family,” 2018) and newcomers Cinzia Fantauzzi, Giulia Heathfield Di Renzi, Isabel Desantis and Laura Camassa.

“Solar Opposites” - Season 5

Home is where the pupa is. Season 5 of the oddball animated comedy “Solar Opposites” premieres Monday, Aug. 12, on Hulu. From executive producers Mike Mcmahan (“Rick and Morty”) and Josh Bycel (“Psych”), “Solar Opposites” follows a team of aliens from the planet Shlorp as they make the most of their new lives after crash landing in middle America. Armed with a pupa (first-time voice actor Sagan Mcmahan) that should eventually terraform Earth into the new planet Shlorp, aliens Korvo (Dan Stevens, “Downton Abbey”), Terry (Thomas Middleditch, “B Positive”), Yumyulack (Sean Giambrone, “The Goldbergs”) and Jesse (Mary Mack, “Twin Cities,” 2017) have stayed split on whether Earth is awful or amazing. While they enjoy junk food, TV and other fun activities, they are repulsed by humanity’s pollution, consumerism and frailty as a race. Heading into the new season, the Solar Opposites are focused on family values now that Terry and Corvo are married. From honeymooning to getting settled into their new life, the series follows their seemingly ordinary — but often outrageous — adventures.

“The Woman King” (2022)

Catch the multiple award-winning historical epic “The Woman King” when it becomes available to stream Tuesday, Aug. 13, on Hulu. Based on true events, the film follows the Agojie, an all-female warrior unit entrusted with protecting the West African kingdom of Dahomey during the 17th to 19th centuries, as they fend off foreign invaders in 1823. At the center of the story is the leader of the unit, Gen. Nanisca (Viola Davis, “The Help,” 2011). In order to properly defend the kingdom, Nanisca trains the next generation of female warriors, including the strong-willed Nawi (Thuso Mbedu, “Castlevania: Nocturne”). As Nanisca and Nawi become closer as comrades, they learn of a secret that connects them.
