The second child of John Thomas and Emma Mabel Spears, Yvonne was born August 3, 1938. A native of Johnson County, Yvonne was a resident of Fort Worth for more than 65 years. She graduated from North Texas

State University in 1959, earning a degree in Education and English. In 1961 she met Charles Mooney, Jr. of Birmingham, AL, and they were married August 25, 1962 at Polytechnic United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. Theirs was a sacramental marriage of love, dedication, and devotion that lasted one week shy of 62 years. They had two children: Pamela in 1965 and Charles III in 1968.

After college, Yvonne taught English in the Fort Worth ISD at Forest Oak and Trimble Tech High School for three years before taking a break from the profession to raise her children and be a full-time housewife. She returned to teaching English and Drama at Kennedale High School when her children were teenagers. When her children were grown, she served as the Vice President of Quality at Easter Seals Fort Worth until retiring in 1999 to devote time to her beloved grandchildren.

Yvonne was incredibly generous with her time and was always eager to give back to her community. An active member of St. Anne’s Guild at All Saints’ Episcopal Church for many decades, Yvonne also served as a room mother for her children at All Saints’ School and led her daughter’s Camp Fire Blue Bird group. Post-retirement, she volunteered at All Saints’ School, reading books and handing out candies to her granddaughter’s class every Friday afternoon. Yvonne joined Holy Family Catholic Church in 2021 and adored her priest, Father Hoa. Kind and generous to everyone, Yvonne was quick to make new friends and was lovingly known as “Gigi” to many.

A gifted artist and pianist, Yvonne also loved to read, and she instilled the love of books in her children and grandchildren. She was a skilled seamstress who could expertly stitch any Halloween costume and even darn socks and torn dollies. She loved to bake, especially at Christmas, when her family and friends eagerly anticipated her fabulous fudge, pecan pies, sand tarts, and peanut butter kisses. In later years, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she lovingly spoiled with caramel candies, hamburger lunches, and spending money covertly slipped into their pockets.

She is survived by her husband, Charles H. Mooney, Jr. of Fort Worth; daughter, Pamela McGehee (Frank) of Fort Worth; son, Charles H. Mooney III (Courtney) of Granbury; grandchildren, Caitlin Margaret Conders (Logan Rodgers), Charles Brandon Mooney and Emma Brigid Conders, all of Fort Worth; sister, Becky Revels of Keller, and nieces, numerous cousins and many beloved friends.
