Global Real Estate Advisor Spotlight Monica Costa

A quick glance into the mind of Monica Costa, a Luxury Real Estate Advisor at Engel & Völkers Marin County

-

Q: What inspired you to start your career in real estate?

A: Fun fact: My last name, “Costa” translates to “Coast” in my native Portuguese language. I developed a deep passion for the real estate business while working with my father, an accomplished Realtor and businessman. Earlier on in my career, I diversified my portfolio of experience through multiple industries such as luxury fashion, automotive, and yachting, and added to a bachelor’s degree in International Business and a Master’s in Marketing,

I’ve been able to pivot into a career as a Global Advisor seamlessly.

Q: How long have you been with Engel & Völkers?

A: Over 5 years now in both San Francisco and Marin County offices.

Q: How do you measure success?

A: Success, to me, can be measured by the genuine content felt within. It’s the strength of our relationships, the impact of our actions, and the sense of fulfillment across different domains of our lives.

Q: How do you show others you care for them?

A: By spending quality time. I often have a busy schedule, so when I’m dedicating my time to someone, it means that

I truly care for them. After all, time is our most valuable asset.

Q: What is your favorite place in the world, and why?

A: Bahia, renowned for its Afro-Brazilian culture, is filled with lively music and natural beauty – it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen and an absolute paradise for beach lovers.

Q: What is a question that people often ask you?

A: Where are you from? (Laughs). I’ve been living in the Bay Area for over 22 years, but I still have my Brazilian accent. Q: What country would you like to see Engel & Völkers expand to next?

A: Definitely Brazil. Rio de Janeiro is home to one of the most mesmerizing properties designed by Architect Oscar Niemeyer, known for his innovative and intriguing style. I would love to see his work listed by Engel & Völkers one day.

Q: What are the top 3 things to consider when buying a house?

A: Location! Location! Location! (Laughs). The truth is, everyone has their own unique interests, needs, and concerns which may change through the course of their lives. If I had to pick the top three they would be: budget, location, and condition. It’s also really important not to forget about your future plans. It’s easy to get excited about a home until you realize that the same home isn’t aligned with your long-term goals.

Q: Tell us something most people wouldn’t know/expect about you.

A: I’m a black-sash kung-fu (choi-li-fut) martial artist. I haven’t had to use any master techniques in the business yet, but you never know. It’s better to be prepared physically, as well as mentally, to handle the frequent challenges of this industry.
