Detour starts on westbound U.S. 411

- From staff reports

Drivers heading out of the city of Rome toward Cartersville on Turner Mccall Boulevard are being reminded that the detour around the U.S. 411 overpass starts Monday.

“Due to the volume of traffic that utilizes the Cartersville exit from Turner Mccall, public safety is encouraging motorists to seek out other detours such as the Rome bypass (Ga Loop 1),” one of several notices from Floyd County Emergency Management Agency reads.

Georgia Department of Transportation contract crews will be repairing the guardrails on the bridge. Weather permitting, they’re expected take about two weeks for the project, according to GDOT district spokesman Joe Schulman.

Vehicles will be directed to the “official” detour: Take U.S. 27 to U.S. 411 toward Cedartown/gadsden then turn off at the Darlington Drive exit. From there, motorists can return to U.S. 411 past the construction area around the Porto Futurus, gateway to Rome, statue at the Ledbetter Interchange.

However, local public safety officials

are expecting congestion on that route and are suggesting several other potential options for drivers familiar with the area:

Ƈ Turner Mccall Boulevard to the 12th Street exit: turn right onto Dean Street (Ga. 101) and then left onto Cartersville Highway.

Ƈ Turner Mccall Boulevard to the Maple Street exit: turn left and then left again to merge onto Cartersville Highway.

Ƈ Turner Mccall Boulevard through Five Points: connect to New Calhoun Highway (Ga. 53) or Kingston Highway (Ga. 293) to use the Bypass, Ga. 1 Loop/veterans Memorial Highway.

The temporary shutdown will be occurring as several other highway projects are happening in Rome, including on Second Avenue and on Martha Berry Highway.

?? GDOT ?? A section of the Ledbetter Interchange heading west toward Cartersville will be closed for repairs for about two weeks starting Monday, June 17.
