- By Billy Hobbs

Three men were seriously injured after the driver of a pickup truck they were traveling in lost control while rounding a curve on a road in Washington County late Saturday, local and state authorities say.

The three men were thrown from the Dodge Ram pickup truck and each sustained injuries. They were flown by Air Evac helicopters from the scene to area hospitals.

The men were identified by a spokeswoman with the Georgia State Patrol post in Milledgeville as Lamarcus Fleming of Tennille; Rashad Jones of Tennille; and Justin Sims of Louisville.

Fleming’s injuries also involved burns.

He was treated at the scene by firefighters/first responders in Washington County and emergency medical personnel, as well as medical personnel with Air Evac before he was flown to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Jones and Sims, who were passengers in the truck, were treated at the scene by medical personnel before they were flown to Atrium Health Navicent, The Medical Center in Macon.

A Georgia Department of Public Safety report was emailed Sunday morning to The Union-Recorder from Sgt. First Class Kevin Pope, commander of the Georgia State Patrol post in Milledgeville. The report was written and submitted to Troop E Lt. Bert Clifton by Sgt. Michael K. Strickland.

In the email, Strickland said Trooper Brandon Brown was dispatched to a single-vehicle crash about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The wreck happened on the 400 block of South Hospital Road near

Alfred C. Carson Drive.

Brown’s investigation revealed that Fleming was driving south on Hospital Road. He lost control as he was attempting to round a curve.

The truck rotated off the roadway into a ditch and slammed into a tree.

“The impact with the tree caused the truck to split in half, ejecting the driver and two passengers from the vehicle,” Brown said in his preliminary report. “The impact caused the bed of the truck to continue traveling.”

That portion of the truck struck a nearby residence.

Firefighters with the Sandersville Fire Department, as well as officers with the Sandersville Police Department and deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, converged on the scene to offer initial assistance to those involved in the crash.
