RLT’S Summer Soiree will take place June 30

- By Severo Avila

Rome residents are invited to help Rome Little Theatre celebrate 90 years at their Summer Soiree on June 30 at Lawrence Preserve.

Patrons, volunteers and supporters of community arts and culture are invited to attend the evening of dancing, dinner and fun which runs 5-9 p.m.

As the 90th season at RLT comes to a close, volunteers and board members have been delving into the long history of the organization to recall its deep roots in the community.

Born of the American Little Theatre Movement, Rome Little Theatre is one of the oldest community theatres in the country. From its founding in 1933 to its WWII hiatus and 1956 revival, and from its residencies at the Gordon Theatre and the Maple Street Community Center to its current home at the Desoto Theatre, RLT is an integral part of Rome’s historical fabric.

According to RLT Executive Director Mandy Maloney, for the last 90 years, RLT has been committed to entertaining, engaging, and educating the Rome community through the practice and promotion of the theatre arts.

She noted that Rome Little Theatre is committed to:

Ƈ Pursuing excellence in all our endeavors in an atmosphere of care, support, respect, and professionalism

Ƈ Creating a climate of equity, diversity and inclusion across all aspects of our organization.

Ƈ Investing in meaningful relationships in our community

Ƈ Providing educational, performance, and engagement opportunities for all ages.

“The success and longevity of the organization is built on the generous contributions of generations of volunteers, donors, and patrons,” she said. “RLT would like to thank The Spires at Berry College for their generous support of this event.”

Tickets are $55 and include dinner and live music. To purchase tickets visit romelittletheatre.com.
