Dorman “Dwight” Bowman, Jr. died Sunday, June 30th at SSM St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison, Wisconsin, with family by his side.

Born in Alabama in 1945, Dwight’s family moved to Savanna, Illinois soon after. He grew up roaming, biking, and playing with his cousins and friends in the hills of Savanna and was also an active participan­t at St. Paul’s Episcopal there. Childhood hobbies included model trains, ham radio, and beekeeping. After high school, he studied Accounting at Bryant & Stratton College, then moved to the Stateline area as a bookkeeper for Scandia Lumber. In 1974, he started at Macktown State Bank in Rockton, Illinois, eventually becoming Executive Vice President. During his time in Rockton, he enjoyed traveling with friends to snow ski and scuba dive. He was active in the Rockton Fire Department serving in many capacities and making many dear friends. Dwight and Candy, his companion of 35 years, hosted 13 foreign exchange students during this time.

In 2003, Dwight moved to their cabin near Oxford, Wisconsin and began working at Prairie Nursery, a native wildflower and seed company. He loved gardening in the woods around the cabin, where he planted thousands of native plants that fed the wildlife.

He and Candy spent winters on the Gulf coast of Florida and Alabama returning in Spring to appreciate Wisconsin once again.

He will be greatly missed by Candy, and the rest of his family: Jennifer Covington, her husband David Blough, and his grandchild­ren Maggie and Salix. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorman Bowman, Sr., Joyce Bowman, and his brother, John Bowman.

A private family service will be held in Savanna, IL. Arrangemen­ts by Law Jones of Savanna, Illinois.
