January 19, 1961 CAB INN HOSTS REPUBLICAN DINNER
On Friday, Jan. 13, the Republican dinner meeting at Cab Inn was well attended. After a delicious dinner was served by Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Thompsen, and the regular business was conducted, including the reading of a letter from Richard Nixon, a very informative speech was made by Mr. I. N. Dovel.
LIONS CLUB DISCUSSES FRUITCAKE SALES
The Rappahannock Lions Club held its regular meeting Jan. 11 at the Hampton Inn. The attendance was excellent.
The fruitcake sales were discussed and it was found that there were still a few cakes available for the public from Jim Bill Coates. It doesn't have to be Christmas to eat and enjoy this delicious cake.
WARDEN REMINDS DOG OWNERS TAGS DUE
Jack W. Bruce, dog warden for Rappahannock County, reminds all dog owners that dog tags are due by Jan. 31 and asks that all owners who have not purchased a license do so as soon as possible. Dogs tags are sold at the Treasurer's Office in Washington.
December 26, 1985 NEWSPAPER NAMES CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
The Rappahannock News, in continuing its tradition of honoring a person who serves the citizens of Rappahannock County beyond the call of duty, is extremely proud to name W. A. Buntin as its Citizen of the Year for 1985.
Mr. Buntin served the county as its sheriff for two consecutive terms beginning in 1975. He won both elections in landslide victories. Before beginning his duties as sheriff, he was an officer of the Virginia State Police for 29 years; all of his years in that capacity were spent in service to this county.
PLANNERS VOTE TO DENY USED CAR LOT
The Rappahannock Planning Commission voted to recommend to the Board of Zoning Appeals that the application of Dwight Frye and Charles Frye for a special use permit for a small used car lot on Route 211 near the Hillsdale Grocery be denied.
BEVERLY ATKINS BECOMES INTERIM COMMISSIONER OF REVENUE
Beverly Atkins has been appointed interim Commissioner of Revenue for Rappahannock County. She replaced Merle Scoggin. Atkins will serve in this position until November 1986 when a special election will be held.
