Woman accused of stabbing father with screwdrive­r

Facing attempted murder, other charges

A Merrillvil­le woman is charged with attempted murder for stabbing her father in the head with a screwdrive­r multiple times.

Anna Kepshire is charged with attempted murder, a level 1 felony, aggravated battery when the assault poses a substantia­l risk of death, a level 3 felony; battery by means of a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony, according to court records.

Around 12:24 a.m. Dec. 20, police were sent to a residence in the 3200 block of West 75th Lane regarding a stabbing, according to the probable cause affidavit. Officers spoke with Anna Kepshire as well as her 85-year-old father.

Her father told police that Anna stabbed him while he was resting upstairs, court records state.

He said she tried to throw him down the stairs and he may have hit his ribs on a chair. Then, she threatened to kill him and stabbed him in the head with a screwdrive­r, records state.

Police found the flat-head screwdrive­r in the sink.

The victim told police that he had pain in his abdomen and there was a puncture wound to the left side of his head with dried blood on it, the affidavit states, and he was transporte­d to Methodist Hospitals Southlake for treatment. The victim suffered four broken ribs and cuts to his head from the incident.

The victim told police that around 7 p.m. Dec. 19, he went upstairs to get on his computer so she could watch TV downstairs. Later, she came to his room and told him “You need to shut your light off,” records state. He said that he wanted to wait up for his wife, who had gone to a casino with his son.

A second time, later, she told him to turn the light off, but he said he wanted to go downstairs to wait for his wife, which upset Anna, court records state. He said Anna stomped downstairs, then upstairs again saying. “I’m going to kill you and throw you down the stairs.” He replied “Well, go ahead,” then she grabbed his shirt which caused him to fall backward into a chair. Then she stabbed him in the head three times, the affidavit states.

She went downstairs again and he thought she was looking for something else to kill him, so he

was able to get to his feet and go in the bedroom to call for help.

The first officer who arrived on scene knocked several times before Anna Kepshire answered and told him that “He went crazy and he is the one who took out the knife,” but the victim told police that she stabbed him three times with a screwdrive­r, records state.

Police had to ask Anna Kepshire several times what happened to get a simple answer, but she never admitted to doing anything to the victim. She told police if she had harmed him that she would have done more damage, court records state.

While police were at the residence, Anna Kepshire uttered a remark about harming the victim then told police that she says that every day.

According to body camera footage, she said “God, my dad’s an (expletive). I hope he dies, but I say that every day,” records state

A family member told police that the victim has been verbally abusive to members of the family.
