Menendez Faces the Music — Possibly Life in Prison

-

The heavy metal shoe of justice has crushed Sen. Bob Menendez’s foot (“Bob the bilker,” July 17).

Now that he has been convicted of leveraging his political power for financial gain, all the skeletons in his closet have been exposed, and the doors flung open.

He was caught with his hand in the pot and he is guilty of accepting bribes from officials from Qatar and Egypt.

For this, Menendez must be punished to the full extent of the law. He can spend the rest of his life in prison, hanging out with fellow criminals.

The arrogance of “Gold Bars” Bob is beyond belief. Several years ago his trial on similar charges ended in a mistrial, but now justice has caught up.

Furthermore, his wife Nadine was involved in a fatal car accident in Bergen County, in which she struck and killed a pedestrian with her MercedesBenz. The police concluded she was not at fault without testing her for drugs or alcohol.

Now, finally, justice prevails because Bob has been convicted of all counts against him.

Menendez is a disgrace to all Americans. He is the epitome of what is most vile about our political system. He should step down.

Menendez kept getting elected by New Jersey voters, even when there was evidence he was a crook. But then, many of those same voters also voted for President Biden.

It’s been said New Jersey deserves better. Well, Jersey voters kept him in office. I never could figure how the people of our state could be so dense as not to see how crooked Menendez is.

New Jersey is on the verge of having its third Democratic senator end his political career in disgrace in just over 40 years, following Pete Williams and Robert Toricelli. This is not an enviable record.

Menendez must resign so that Gov. Phil Murphy can appoint a qualified caretaker to occupy the office.
