MLB: Padres win on walk-off HR

All-Star Jurickson Profar hit a tying home run leading off the ninth inning and Manny Machado walked it off with a two-run shot in the Padres’ wild 10-8 victory over the Diamondbac­ks in San Diego.

In Los Angeles, Freddie Freeman singled in the go-ahead runs with two outs in the eighth inning, Will Smith homered three times, and the Dodgers rallied past the Brewers 8-5 in a matchup of NL division leaders.

In Minneapoli­s, Alex Bregman had a three-run homer and the Astros held off the Twins 13-12 after taking an eight-run lead into the bottom of the ninth. Jeremy Peña had three hits, scored three times and drove in three runs to help the Astros win for the 13th time in 15 games.

In Atlanta, Trea Turner hit a pair of two-run home runs off Max Fried, Aaron Nola earned his 100th career victory and the Phillies beat the Braves, 8-6. The NL East-leading Phillies extended their lead over second-place Atlanta to 10 games.

In Washington, Masyn Winn scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball in the 11th, and the Cardinals rallied from an early five-run deficit to beat the Nationals, 7-6.

In Cleveland, Michael Conforto hit a two-run double as the Giants won for the eighth time in their last 11 games, beating the AL Central-leading Guardians, 4-2.

NBA: Wagner signs historic extension

Franz Wagner has agreed to the largest contract in Magic history, a five-year extension that will be worth at least $224 million, a person with knowledge of the negotiatio­ns told The Associated Press. The contract value could reach $270 million if he becomes supermax eligible, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement cannot yet be announced.

Klay Thompson offered a farewell message to the Bay Area and Golden State fans on social media after departing the Warriors in free agency this week to join the Mavericks on a three-year, $50 million contract.

The Sabres traded former top-10 draft pick Matthew Savoie to the Oilers for forward Ryan McLeod and forward prospect Tyler Tullio on Friday.

Savoie, 20, was the ninth overall pick of the 2022 draft but has played in just one NHL game so far.

SOCCER: Ecuador fires coach

Ecuador mutually agreed to part ways with coach Félix Sánchez Bas, a day after the national team was knocked out of the Copa America quarterfin­als by Argentina in a penalty shootout. The Ecuadorian Football Associatio­n said in a statement that both parties agreed to end their contract.
