We’re all ‘Mad’ for Anya
PHOTOS of Anya Taylor-Joy’s assorted parts have now suddenly bobbled everywhere. And everyone’s had joy seeing almost all of Anya Taylor-Joy’s joy. She’s now road-running in “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” which is an Aussie Outback with Chris Hemsworth whose many assorted parts we’ve already seen.
Director George Miller: “Anya can do anything. Difficult role. The character is iconic. And Hemsworth is a showman marauder across the wasteland like Genghis Khan. They’re like ‘Westerns on wheels.’ ”
Yeah, OK. Go see this largest thing the country’s ever ground out. Hop a Harley.
Raising the bar
GRAB a bus that’s chugging East. Avoid the new lifeguards and aging sharks. Schlep to Shelter Island’s Ram’s Head Inn. Order a vodka. But know that its warm summertime room temperature vodka tab now comes with a separate charge — another bill. It arrives at the same time — extra, additional. It’s for the ice. And the twist!
The bread’s still free. Not yet clear on whether you have to rent the table.
Roominating
ANOTHER of our area’s charms: This from one of our major Realtors. Right now there’s 40,000 (that’s the actual number) unused empty NYC apartments.
Also, per some lawmaker ruling, you cannot dislodge a stranger squatter. Even one you never met, didn’t invite, don’t want. Our courts are clogged. To remove a squatter can take forever. Besides expense — you can also lose the case. Recouping that financial layout? Forget it. To update and rent the place? Costly to modify a longtime unrepaired space. Fixing’s endless. So’s recouping that expenditure.
Thus, despite homelessness, migrants and squatters, 40,000 stay empty. And while others pay staggering rents, NYC squatters squat free.
Call ’n’ response
ANOTHER business story: Jeff Bezos grouped together his execs. All held official reports showing their Help Desk took — on average — only three rings to answer.
So in front of them all, he put the phone on speaker and called the Help Desk. Took 10 minutes to answer. Case closed. Not closed — said one of our world’s most successful business leaders as he related this. And these are Bezos’ words echoed by the person relating the story: “Gossip is a most important function in today’s world.”
Added: “Jeff Bezos is a brilliant businessman.” Omitted was that for 100% I must be too, because I deal in gossip.
Family dining
1959, I visited Delmonico’s. Besides steak it had Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, a Whitney or two, and a few pounds of du Ponts. This week it was Delmonico relative Max Tucci’s Tucci in Noho, which grabs Tischs, Clive Davis ,a Cardi B or two and a few pounds of the city’s elite mixed with nostalgia. Try it. You’ll love it. And everyone — clothed. Nothing hung out except what was on the plate.
RUMOR. It’s warming up between the royals in Britain. Meghan Markle sent word for Camilla to knock off the formalities and that Her Majesty the Queen no longer needs to curtsy to her.
