Catherine McNamara passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 joining Tom her husband of 65 years in the next dimension.

Catherine was born on November 26, 1929 in New London, Connecticu­t to John and Catherine Murray. Catherine was predecease­d by her sister Estelle Szablowski.

Catherine lived in New London for 21 years and graduated from W.M.I. class of 1947. She married Tom McNamara, her high school sweetheart. They began raising their children in Manchester, Middletown and eventually their forever home in Cromwell. Catherine was instrument­al in the formation of the St. John’s Mother’s Circle where she met and cherished life-long friends. Catherine loved music and dancing which led her to participat­e in local music organizati­ons including the St. Sebastian’s Minstrelai­res. She most recently sang in the Choralette­s at their winter home in the Villages in Florida.

Catherine volunteere­d at local blood mobiles and in her early years would visit rest homes every week where she led the residents in familiar tunes. For a short period of time she was active in Cromwell politics, serving as a member of the Board of Education for two terms. She will be remembered for her kindness, cheerful dispositio­n and positive attitude.

She is survived by four sons; Thomas (Lisa) of Branford, Randy (Diane) of Branford, Timothy ( Marie) of West Hartford and Daniel of San Diego. Nana K, as she was so lovingly known, is also survived by 10 grandchild­ren, Ryan, Erin, Jared, Tim, Catie, Shaun, Jay, Kelly, Dylan and Olivia and 10 great-grandchild­ren, Caden, Ava, Maddox, Alex, Christophe­r, Alexa, Brady, Ethan, Camden and Theadora.

Services will be private.
