Bolton postpones Sunday show at Mohegan Sun
Singer and New Haven native Michael Bolton has postponed his Sunday Mohegan Sun concert for over a year, the venue announced Friday.
The rescheduled concert will now take place a full year from now at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
“Unfortunately, due to illness, Michael Bolton’s performance at Mohegan Sun Arena on December 17, 2023 will be postponed to Sunday December 22, 2024,” Mohegan Sun said in a message on its website. “Michael is deeply sorry to his fans and looks forward to performing again once he’s feeling better.”
The nature of the illness was not disclosed.
The “When a Man Loves a Woman” singer was born in New Haven in 1953. His father, George Bolotin, was a ward boss and leader in the local Democratic Party. Bolton, along with his sharp jawline and flowing, blonde hair, rose to prominence as a pop singer in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, when he dominated Adult Contemporary charts. By 1995 he earned two Grammy Awards and six American Music Awards. He also had four top-10 albums and 14 top-10 songs.
Bolton, who lives in
Westport, was reintroduced to audiences in 2011 thanks to a satirical Saturday Night Live music video where he played a Jack Sparrow-obsessed cinephile for the Lonley Island’s “Jack Sparrow” song.
Bolton, who has been a vegetarian since 1970, has professed his love for New Haven’s Mamoun’s Falafel and the owners have said Bolton’s love for the thenlittle-known food was instrumental in bringing Syrian recipe to the Nutmeg State.
Last month, Bolton posted on social media thanking People Magazine for including him in its Sexiest Man Alive issue.
