What one man presumed would be a second meet-up with a woman he met on a dating app turned out be a scheme that ended as a violent kidnapping and armed robbery.

Miami police booked

Robert Andre Maytin, 20, into jail Friday on kidnapping and armed robbery charges after detectives determined that he and a woman used a dating app to find a victim in July.

In addition to those charges, Maytin faces a charge of unlawful use of a debit card, since he’s accused of forcing his victim to withdraw money from his bank account.

The woman, who is not named in the report, contacted the victim using

BLK on July 18, and the two agreed to meet, detectives say in their arrest report. However, the report reveals she called him on the way to his house, saying her car broke down and she needed $800 to tow it.

The victim gave her $600 when she arrived at his house, detectives say.

The next day, she called him and asked if he wanted to meet again, to which he agreed. But when she arrived in a white SUV, Maytin was in the back seat. The victim got into the car and sat in the back with Maytin, the report states. The three drove around the Wynwood area before the woman pulled over, detectives said, and Maytin then pulled out a knife as he demanded the victim’s valuables.

Shortly after, Maytin allegedly punched the man in the face and forced him to send money via an app.

Police say the victim was also forced to take $1,000 from an ATM in several transactions. The couple dropped the victim off, and he walked to a clinic to receive treatment for facial injuries, the report states.

It was not immediately clear whether police have arrested the woman.
