Mets outslug Padres to finish sweep

Pete Alonso homered and finished with five RBI as the surging New York Mets completed a threegame sweep of the visiting San Diego Padres with an 11-6 victory Sunday.

Francisco Lindor led the game off with a homer and Luis Torrens sparked a four-run eighth inning with a solo shot for the Mets, who have won 11 of 15. Six players had an RBI apiece for the Padres, who fell to 6-9 this month.

The Padres took their first lead of the series when Manny Machado hit an RBI single against

Tylor Megill (2-3) in the first inning, but in the bottom half, Lindor hit the third pitch he saw from Dylan Cease (6-6) into the second deck in right field.

Brandon Nimmo singled and J.D. Martinez walked before Alonso homered to left for his first blast since June 4. Alonso was 5 of 30 in between homers.

The Mets chased Cease by scoring three times in the fourth, when Harrison Bader and Martinez sandwiched RBI doubles around a sacrifice fly by Lindor.

Rookie Pedro Pages belted a two-run homer and Miles Mikolas tossed 6 1⁄3

strong innings, lifting visiting St. Louis over Chicago. Paul Goldschmid­t had two of the nine hits for the Cardinals, who won the rubber match of this three-game series and improved to

4-1 in the season series. Michael Busch had an RBI single in the seventh inning for the Cubs, who have lost 16 of their last 23 games.

inning, one of four homers for Baltimore its way to defeating visiting Philadelph­ia in the rubber game of a three-game series. Baltimore won the final two games of the series – the only scheduled meetings of the season between two of the top teams in the big leagues – after losing Friday night’s opener in 11 innings.

Siri hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to lift visiting Tampa Bay over Atlanta and salvage a game in their three-game series. Siri connected on his eighth home run of the season off Atlanta closer Raisel Iglesias (0-1), who walked Randy Arozarena to start the inning.

Daulton Varsho hit a grand slam, Ernie Clement belted a two-run blast and Toronto held on to defeat visiting Cleveland. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had three hits and a walk for Toronto in the rubber match of the three-game series.

Willy Adames hit a goahead three-run homer and center fielder Blake Perkins threw out the game-tying run at the plate in the ninth inning

Blue Jays 7, Guardians 6: Brewers 5, Reds 4:

as Milwaukee beat visiting Cincinnati in the rubber match of a three-game series. Spencer Steer and Elly De La Cruz each hit solo homers for Cincinnati, which has lost its last eight series against Milwaukee.

Ronel Blanco tossed seven no-hit innings and Jose Altuve clubbed a three-run home run as Houston claimed the rubber match of its threegame series against visiting Detroit.

Carlos Correa went 3 for 5 with two homers and three RBI and Minnesota pulled away to beat Oakland s in the first game of a split doublehead­er in Minneapoli­s. Royce Lewis and Carlos Santana added one home run apiece for Minnesota, which won its fourth consecutiv­e game. The Twins racked up 12 hits, drew five walks and struck out only three times. Daz Cameron hit a solo home run for Oakland, which lost its eighth in a row. Kyle McCann had an RBI single and JJ Bleday finished 2-for-4 with a double.

Pirates 8, Rockies 2:

Astros 4, Tigers 1: Twins 6, Athletics 2:

Pittsburgh beat Colorado in Denver. Jared Triolo added two hits and drove in a pair of runs for Pittsburgh, which also received two hits from Andrew McCutchen, Nick Gonzales and Jack Suwinski. Oneil Cruz singled and doubled in his return to the lineup after missing two games with ankle soreness. Bryan Reynolds singled to extend his hitting streak to 14 games as the Pirates pounded out 15 hits to win two of three in the series. Nolan Jones had three hits and Jacob Stallings contribute­d two hits for Colorado, which has lost five of its last six home games.

Phillies: Philadelph­ia

star shortstop Trea Turner will be reinstated from the 10-day injured list on Monday, manager Rob Thomson confirmed. Thomson said Sunday that Turner would be activated “unless something weird happens.” Turner, 30, has been sidelined since May 4 with a left hamstring strain.

Dodgers: Los Angeles

right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with right triceps tendinitis. Yamamoto, 25, left Saturday’s home start against the Kansas City Royals after throwing 28 pitches over two scoreless innings. His fastball velocity was in the 93-96 mph range, slightly off his season average during his two innings.

Giants: San Francisco

Giants left-hander Kyle Harrison was scratched from his start on Sunday and placed on the 15-day injured list with a right ankle sprain, retroactiv­e to Thursday. Harrison, 22, is 4-3 with a 3.96 ERA in 14 starts this season. The Giants’ third-round pick in 2020 is 5-4 with a 4.02 ERA in 21 starts since making his major league debut last season.
