Dolphins add 2 veteran centers, place Connor Williams on IR

- BY DANIEL OYEFUSI doyefusi@miamiherald.com

The Dolphins on Wednesday placed center Connor Williams on injured reserve with a season-ending ACL tear and added a pair of possible replacements.

Miami signed Jonotthan Harrison to the 53-man roster and signed Matt Skura to the practice squad.

Harrison, 32, has 42 career starts at center but last appeared in a game in 2019 with the N.Y. Jets.

Harrison, a Florida alum who is 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, started his career with the Indianapolis Colts and has also spent time with Buffalos (2020), the New York Giants (2021) and Atlanta (2022-23).

Skura, 30, is back in Miami for his second stint with the Dolphins after spending time with the team during the 2021 offseason and training camp. He was later released as part of roster cuts.

Skura, 6-3 and 305 pounds, has made 73 starts in his career, most recently with the Los Angeles Rams last season. He also can play guard.

Liam Eichenberg is the likely starting center after filling in for Williams during Monday night’s home loss to Tennesse and earlier in the season. But Eichenberg is dealing with a calf injury and Miami didn’t have any other experienced options.

Guard Lester Cotton has practiced at center but has never played center in the regular season. Center

Alama Uluave is an undrafted rookie on the practice squad who has yet to make his NFL debut.

INTERNATIONAL GAME FOR FINS IN 2024?

The NFL on Wednesday voted to play its first regular-season game in South America next season. The game will be in Brazil at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo.

For weeks, there has been speculation that the Dolphins would be a participant in the historic game. Miami is the only team with international marketing rights in Brazil. ESPN Deportes reported last week that the Dolphins would be scheduled for the game.

According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, an NFC team would be the home team for the game because of the league’s schedule rotation.

The teams participating in the Brazil game will be announced early next year. The date and kickoff time will be confirmed once the full schedule is announced, typically in the spring.

The Dolphins are set to play eight home games and nine road games next season. The team is scheduled to have road NFC games against the L.A. Rams and Seattle Seahawks and the NFC North team that has the same division finish as Miami.

Miami played in the first regular-season game in Frankfurt, Germany, in Week 9, a 21-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The game in Brazil is one of five confirmed international matchups in the

2024 season. The NFL will also hold three games in London and one in Munich.

The NFL also voted to increase its annual slate of international games from four to eight starting in 2025.

INJURY REPORT

On a short week after “Monday Night Football,” Miami did not practice Wednesday but released an estimated injury report.

Eight players would not have practiced: Eichenberg (calf), running backs

De’Von Achane (toe) and

Raheem Mostert (knee/ vet rest), wide receiver

Tyreek Hill (ankle), left tackle Terron Armstead (knee/ankle), right guard

Robert Hunt (hamstring), cornerback Xavien Howard (hip) and safety

DeShon Elliott (concussion/ribs).

Coach Mike McDaniel on Tuesday said Hill, who played through his ankle injury against Tennessee, is “day to day,” as is Armstead. McDaniel said he would be surprised if Hunt played against the New York Jets (1 p.m. Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium).

Safety Jevon Holland (knees), right tackle Austin Jackson (oblique), outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel (oblique) and running back Chris Brooks (knee) would have been limited.
