One man is dead and a suspect is in custody following a stabbing in Delhi on Tuesday, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 3:30 a.m., deputies responded to the 7600 block of Merced Avenue in Delhi for a reported stabbing, according to Merced County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Domingue. Deputies arrived on scene and located a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. According to authorities, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said the incident occurred in an area where multiple residences are located on the property of a dairy. Detectives spoke with witnesses who advised authorities that the suspect in the alleged stabbing, identified as 37-year-old Emilio Marcelino Trujeque, had fled the scene prior to the arrival of deputies.

According to Domingue, it appears both men, who lived on the property, were involved in some sort of altercation. Authorities said it is unknown if the two men lived in the same residence. According to deputies, it is believed that Trujeque allegedly used some sort of knife to stab the victim during the incident.

“A knife was located which is believed to be associated with the incident,” said Domingue.

At about 2 p.m. that afternoon., detectives located Trujeque in an area of Delhi where he was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

Authorities said a motive for the stabbing is unknown at this time and the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

Trujeque was booked into Merced County Jail on suspicion of felony murder, according to jail records. He remains in custody in lieu of $1,000,000 bond.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Bureau at 209-385-7472.
